Do you indulge in small talk with strangers?

Say for example when youre sitting in a taxi or getting your hair done, do you chat away about all your lifes problems to the person or stay silent? Do you just mention the weather?

The weather is usually a good way to start off, and sometimes it just branches off from there. Once in a while I'll start the small talk, but I have to be in a pretty good mood to do that. Otherwise, I'll just stay silent until the other person starts the small talk.

I guess I can have some shyness as well.

I generally dont, I think its pointless. If someone starts talking to me of course Ill reply, but I generally wont carry on the conversation or start one myself.

i was getting my hair cut this morning and the hairdresser next to me was having a right random chat with her customer and I felt a little guilty that my hairdresser wasnt getting the same from me, but meh, I had nothing to say - rather be alone with my thoughts. Ignorance? maybe, but ah well.

I always seem to. And it's never about anything normal. I don't pick very personal subject, but I take in the surroundings and study a person, and try to come up with something to talk about. As far as I could always tell, no one really cares what the weather is like. Plus, I know enough to get by in almost everrything. But I love interacting with strangers. Scruff McGruff taught me well.

I ski, and whenever you take the chairlift up with a stranger you feel obliged to talk with them wheather it is a child or a oldtimer. Typically you talk about ski conditions, and good trails you took that day. Most of the time I would rather just sit quitely, but sometimes you have interesting conversations. Otherwise I don't indulge in small talk with strangers.

Weather is about half of my small talk, the rest depends on the other person and surroundings. I don't always have small talk tho. But when you work in a store and ring people up all day it tends to happen more often than not

I do it quite frequently...

For example, today I learned that Chicago got a foot of snow and highway 80/90 was a freaking mess. I also learned that it was going to be about 70 all weekend in Panama City, Florida. Finally, I learned that it takes my contact at Chase bank about an hour to get to work everyday... shortly afterward she told me that I was a pain in her ass. I wanted to say that clearly we were doing something wrong, but I didn't think it was appropriate.
