Re: Small Talk

I mostly just have my earphones in my ears at all times to avoid it. The worst is when you see someone you know, but really have nothing to talk about with.

Random: "Erin! HI! Where have you been? Hows things?!"
Me: "Um, around, and good, how are you?"
Random: "Good... you know, busy. I have this huge English paper due, and this presentation in Geo, and my boyfriends being..."
Me: "Yeah me too, gotta go."

Re: Small Talk

It is pretty much inevitable not to have small talk with people you don't know. I mean it used to be very rare of me to talk to anyone I didn't know but, I guess over the years with just random people talking to you in class rooms, stores (especially book stores), and other places kind of breaks you out of your shyness a little.

Re: Small Talk

A cab driver told me about how his Ex-Father-in-Law was a perfectionist and made him rebend a bunch of copper pipe like a dozen times. I just wanted to get home from the bus station.

Normally I don't mind, but dude jsut launched into it without any kind of, so where you comin from or anything.

The only time it bothers me consistently is when old dudes at the gym want to talk about the music playing or how they used to play college football and could have gone pro etc...

lol not with me. I work in a store as well and 90 percent of the time if someone speaks i just yes and walk off, i hate dealing with a lotta different people lol. I really didn't talk to my coworkers for a few months when i first started out either, people prolly thought i was either an asshole or some fucked up guy who was creappy, but i am just generally shy.

I am shy as well but you can't be very shy when you are running the cash register as I have to do sometimes.

Are you in a retail store?

Why accept a job in retail if you hate people? That's the number one priority in retail...interacting with customers.

Re: Small Talk

I agree with young Jayman here, if somebody who worked in a shop was like that with me I would be very much pissed off.

Re: Small Talk

Because its convenient for me. I'm usually in the back stockroom now anyways so interaction isn't as sessential as say as a cashiey but still when I'm on the floor I don't go out of my way to speak to them, if they speak I'll say how are you or something but that's about it.
