Some questions though... Do they celebrate this day in the US? I don't have a clue. and If you do celebrate it and do indeed LOVE IT, do you have the homemade pancakes or the cheap shop stuff? What do you have on yours? Lemon and sugar? Mmmmm. Ice cream and maple syrup? Mmmmm.

What exactly is it? A day to head to the shops and eat pancakes? Are there parades or something? I like to celebrate "Pancake night" at about 3am on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings at the local 24-hour Dennys (Or Coney Island, or whatever restaurant serves greasy breakfast food during then). My favorite are blueberry pancakes, although cinnamon pancakes and chocolate chip pancakes are also divine.

(Rep to Mr Kennedy) We don't have parades, just go home and pig ourselves till we spontaneously combust. Shrove Tuesday is the term used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia to refer to the day after Shrove Monday and before Ashe Wednesday (the liturgical season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday). In these countries, particularly Ireland, and amongst Anglicans, Lutherans and possibly other Protestant denominations in Canada including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, this day is also known as Pancake Day or Pancake Tuesday, because it is customary to eat pancakes on this day. In other parts of the world—for example, in historically Catholic and French-speaking parts of the United States and elsewhere—this day is called Mardi Gras. In areas with large Polish-immigrant populations (for example, Chicago) it is known as Paczki Day & celebrated on the Thursday before Lent. And in areas with large German-immigrant populations (for example, Pennsylvania Dutch Country) it is known as Fasnacht Day (also spelled Fausnacht Day and Fauschnaut Day).

Yes, we have something similiar around these parts where we pig out on Paczki's, Polish jelly-filled donuts that are about 1000 calories a pop. Especially around here where there's a large Polish population. I'm going to avoid those desserts tomorrow (hopefully), but no promises.
