I'm also in college going for my bachelor's and while I'm at it, I work there at the school in a number of offices and departments. My job varies day-to-day. Sometimes I help people register and select classes, sometimes I deliver mail, sometimes I work in the bookstore, sometimes I lend a hand on outside work around the campus like repairing light fixures, maybe gardening, maybe help out at the daycare. That's what I love about working at the school. You could be doing anything. Course.. I have seniority over most so I can select my hours, come and go as I please, take as many days off as I want, and walk around without being yelled out. I like to do that sometimes.. walk around and talk to the young ladies.

For work, I mark first-year journalism classes, serve as a student rep on the editorial board for The Malahat Review (a literary journal), and write arts stuff for Monday Magazine, which is Victoria's alt-weekly (like NOW in Toronto, or the Village Voice in NYC). The pay at Monday Mag is shit, but I've interviewed a lot of my favourite musicians: Feist, The Weakerthans, Tegan and Sara, Patrick Watson. Next week, I'm talking to Josh Ritter, who I once raved about on KYN as the "next Bob Dylan." (Actually, I made threads for Tegan and Sara and The Weakerthans as well...)

I look at their financial statements, business plans, etc. to try to come up with estimates of each company's future sales, earnings (a.k.a. net profit), cash flow, etc. I then use that information to come up with a "valuation" of the company. I then compare that valuation to the stock's current price, to determine whether or not the stock is a good investment.

BTW, I work at CVS mostly in the photo lab. I am almost guarenteed a supervisor position now, since one stepped down because 5 or 6 people called the ethics line on her for stupidness. And another one is more than likely going to get a job with Raytheon in Andover, building missiles. I am also waiting for a call from the MBTA so I can start working with Rambo, but driving the trains. Specifically the trains that bring people to and from the redsox games

Those were some fun times. I loved it when good looking women came in to get there film developed. I almost always just pushed theirs to the front of the line because I wanted to see what they had developed. It was never anything juicy though. That kinda stuff was left for the ugly people. I've seen some good stuff, though..but the rule at our store was: as long as it's nothing to do with minors, or something hurting someone else on film, we were allowed to print it and sell it to them.

I know some people take the obligatory bare bottom pics of their kids, but sometimes it's not just one or two pics. I always have to ask someone else what they think about it. But as far as good pics, yes, usually ugly UGLY people. Like this one time, there was a big black dude and what looked like to me was a hooker in a hotel room. I won't go into specifics. But I stayed 30 minutes late the other night for some chick getting a passport. She was pretty attractive which is why I stayed late, otherwise I would have said no. I know I'm a terrible person blah blah blah.

But i'm a gigantic nerd, and I'm good with numbers, so it works for me. I spend most of my day (well, when I'm actually doing work), playing with spreadsheets on Microsoft Excel, and writing. The writing helps pass the time.

I work evenings and weekends at a Doctors out of Hours Call Centre. I take calls from people requiring a Doctor and take all the info from them, and then either pass it on to one of our medical clinicians or book them an appointment to see a doctor that night. We also do the same for dentists as well. I also go a little bit of general admin work, as i've been there a long time. However I’m finishing with that soon, as I’ve been offered a promotion to lead a new project we’re starting, which involves medical underwriting insurance. I don’t know all the details yet, but my hours will be more sociable and I’ll have weekends off.
