Unintentional Racist comments

Last night I went to this club. Unfortunately for me, it was rap night. I'm not a fan of rap. They're doing their little head bobbing thing, and I just mention to my friend, "My god it's like I'm at the zoo. They're so strange." And he just started laughing.

I didn't really mean it in a racist way. It was just so strange. I think it was a pretty racist comment though.

Whenever something doesn't go my way anymore, I'm just going to respond with, "it's because I'm white."

Unfortunately because I am in a mixed relationship I get comments from people a lot who don't realize the impact of their words.

I almost said this last time I dealt with something like this:

"You know....next time you have a thought........let it go."

I never find myself in those situations. I am pretty good with not saying stupid stuff.

Sometimes i'm in situations with people who have insane views, and are overally racist it's kind of weird...

My friends and I often call eachother fags and the like so it's strange when I'm around an actual gay person.. I try to be careful with it, but after a few drinks.. whoops!

Granted to me, I've been slurred my entire life, mostly out of ignorance, I still believe I'm one of the only people to be called a nigger and a dirty spic in the same day. Anyway, I think some people get offended to easily. It's probably easier for me to just let it go as I've dealt with it my entire life, but meh. To me if you don't mean it in a hate-filled manner, it's not really racism.

At the moment I have an Asian lecturer and I can't do impressions of him like I do with every other lecturer because I sound racist. It does my head in!

But thats where this whoe thing annoys me. If you do impressions of all the others then it would be no different with this one. But you're always worried that because hes asian, someone would take it the wrong way and think youre being racist.

It's so silly - political correctness and human rghts gone mad.

Exactly, its not. But say someone walked past and just heard her doing it about the asian professor, chances are they'd assume she was racist, but if she was doing it about a white professor with a funny voice, noone would think anything of it.
