Isn't the "true meaning" of Christmas inherently removed just by process of how you pronounce the word? "Kriss-mas"? If you really want to preserve its true meaning, why not pronounce it phonetically?

That's kind of a stretch, don't you think?

I'm just asking, is spelling Christmas without the "Christ" really that much different than pronouncing it without the "Christ"?

Actually some people do pronounce it phonetically, very very very very few i know do. I don't know, at least when you say it you're saying "Christmas" not "Xmas"
