Telling someone, "YOU'RE WRONG!"

Will you cause controversy and tell someone that they're wrong? I will, sometimes. When it's worth it, like when a person passes obvious mis-information, I might inform them of being wrong. Or when there's a serious negative end result. Other times I just sit back and laugh. The other day I over heard an office conversation of someone saying that they watched people carrying boxes of "Grade D" meat at Taco Bell. Using the internet for awhile, I've seen this lie passed around many times, so I knew it was exactly that, a lie. But I just let it go on.

Other times, like when someone tried to tell me they were approved for a home mortgage (and even had their house up for sale) and without putting anything down I had to correct them. But it wasn't because I didn't like them, I just didn't want them to sell themselves out of a house.

For those curious, most places are asking 20% of on a standard FHA home loan and 7% down on a HELOC. If you do interest only, you're retarded.

Re: Telling someone, "YOU'RE WRONG!"

I have never liked controversy or conflicts of any kind so I try to stay away from them at all costs.

I'm a good old rebel,
Now thats just what I am,
And for this Yankee nation,
I do not give a damn.
I'm glad we fought against her,
I only wish we'd won.
I ain't asking any pardon for anything we've done.

See, I don't like controversy, or really the drama that results from it. So I usually try to present it in a manner so that the other person won't take offense from it. Sometimes when I'm wrong though, and think I'm right, I get my ass handed to me.

Re: Telling someone, "YOU'RE WRONG!"

My job entails listening to people's complaints about how their employer is handling their health and / or pension plans. Most of the people who contact us have no idea how the laws work, but many think that they do. I have to tell people numerous times a day that they are wrong. These are the people who are calling the government for help and so of course we get our beyond fair share of crazies and many people, crazy or not, get very upset when the law does not favor their position.
It gets very hard to deal with, but fortunately most answers are given over the phone or in a letter. Either way, lots of people freak out and yell at me and demand to speak with a supervisor and inevitably some people become unreasonable.
I don't reccomend tellling people they're wrong.
But perhaps what is worse, is when the employer is not following the law and I have to contact the employer and I get a prick who is used to being the boss and just starts yelling at me and refuses to deal with the evil government who should be there to help, not to come after people.
Whatever, it's a hard job and then when I leave work I get to go to school and listen to disturbingly boring and difficult lectures.
I think you should all come and make it your duty to help me relax.

I'm so going to law school.

I actually thought about it once. Then I was reminded that law school was hard.

Re: Telling someone, "YOU'RE WRONG!"

law school is mostly about putting in long hours of reading, then some professors just lecture and you fall asleep or play online and stop learning, or some professors call on you randomly and try to get you to give them the wrong answer through a series of questions and hypos. then 92% of your classes base your entire grade on one three-hour final and you stress yourself out until the semester is over and you sleep it all off and forget everything.
