I have four kids. I can tell you, at 8 and 9 years old, they are already hearing from friends at school what they "think" sex is and sexuality. Both of my eldest sons, 8 and 11 years old, know exactly what sex is. Did I want to have that talk that early... not really, but they are both intelligent enough to understand it. In regards to homosexuality, that has already been brought up by both of them as well, and I've had that talk too.

Dak, although I agree that the ages you think you should talk to children about this stuff is about where I thought so as well..... if they are hearing inacurate information early, you've got to, as a parent correct them, regardless of how young they are. Now, as to how much detail you go into, that's another story. My kids know about sex, but for the purpose of procreation, and not for pleasure... that part of it I figure they will come to me about when they do become interested or have those types of feelings...

Very good point Felix and although I did consider it, I didn't really adress it. Whenever your child asks you about it of course I say go ahead and have that talk with them then.

It seems kids are growing up way too young these days.

I'm a good old rebel, now that's just what I am.

I'm kind of with Dak on this issue. I don't think you should teach your child about homosexuality, as I really don't think it should be encouraged. However, I do think that it is necessary to teach your child that everyone is different, including when it comes to whether a person marries a guy or a girl.

Exactly.

I feel that teaching a kid about homosexuality is encouraging or promoting it.

They should be taught to be tolerant of all people no matter what they believe though.
