Common Courtesy

So, are you one of those people who sees someone behind you and holds the door? Or do you just walk through and not even care?

Do you say Thank You after your given something? Or do you act like it's about time you got it?

Is Respect earned? Or should it just be unconditionally given?

Re: Common Courtesy

And to answer your question about repect being earned or not I think it goes like this...

I dont think it has to be earned, If you just met someone show some respect to him, but knowing someone for awhile and they dont deserve respect then dont give it to them.

Re: Common Courtesy

I hold doors open for people and when someone holds a door open for me I say thank you to them. I have to say that most people here was raised to behave in that manner and West Virginians are often praised as beeing really nice by visitors from other states. Don't get me wrong, we have our share of bad apples as well but there are a lot of nice people here.

I give everyone respect until they show me that they don't deserve any respect. Even then I will just try to avoid that person and not disrepect them.

Park the old car that I love the best
Inspections due and it won't pass the test
Funny how I have to put it to rest
And someday I will join it.

Re: Common Courtesy

When someone doesn't hold the door open for me I yell "YEAH, THANK YOU" really sarcastically.

I actually say your welcome sarcastically when I open the door for somebody and I dont get a thank you, I always open the door and always say thank you or at least give a nod off the head(if I happen to be on the phone or something along those lines)

Re: Common Courtesy

I'll always try to hold the door for people, unless they're dawdling. I think it's a bit weird if you hold it for someone who's a fair distance away. That person then feels the need to speed up a bit.

I'll always offer my bus seat to people who are less able than me to stand, and I always make a point of thanking workers in shops, cafes or restaurants. When I worked at Maccies, it used to piss me off royally if people didn't say Hi to me or thank you. Those people were getting a large box with four fries in it.

Re: Common Courtesy

One thing that kills me is people who will talk in the library. Our library is 10 floors, and the higher up you go, the quieter the study areas are supposted to be. So the first few floors is group work, then quiet study, and then the top 3 floors are supposted to be silent study.

I don't even mind if people have a quick exchange, or talk really quietly. There seems to have been a recent trend of just picking up your cellphone and having a full out conversation well the people right beside you are trying to study. Have some courtesy, go into the hallway that is 15 steps away.

I usually will glare them into submission, whilst considering stabbing them with a pencil.
