Where are we headed?

Certain posters on Monks often use the term "back in the day." Like, back in the day was a lot better than what is going on right now. Do you feel that perhaps maybe it is true; that back in the day was a lot better than today? Or maybe you think we're headed up?

I'll post my thoughts after you post yours. That sir, is a promise.

In some instances. If it's one thing i hate is the lack of morales, and the overall lack of integrity MY Generation shows. It disgusts me. Just the other day me and a friend were at the mall (Sears was closing) and this chick who didn't look 15, was saying that her new boyfriend knew nothing about sex and that she wanter her old one back. I just about flipped. That's terrible. to be honest, I know a lot of the people I know lost their virginity when they were 16/17. Myself I lost it after I was 18. Also, a lot of the television, music, and radio is just flat terrible. It seems it used to be tolerable, now it's just unfathomably boring, stale and annoying. Often I wonder to my samoan self, "Self, when your generation has it's choice of president, how god awful is it going to be?" and I normally reply, "Well Mike, you'll be dead when you're 30 don't worry" The whole fact that my generation will be running the world, scares the living shit out of me.

I'm probably guiltier than anyone of doing that. However, it's more because I have moments, stories, etc which are "back in the day" in terms of if they would have any interest on here. Nobody here is going to be interested in my career or family which is just about all any story "today" would revolve around!

I am however fully aware that "back in the day" was not the golden period of time I may make it sound like.. The 80's (for example) were good, I enjoyed the music and the popular culture from that time. That's not to say it was any better than the 90's or the 00's, it's just I had the time for it then and I don't know. A work colleague recently got me into listening to "Muse" (Brit band) and I'm incredibly hooked. But I would never have discovered them at all were it not for him just because I wouldn't have been looking for it.

Besides, the 2030's will be the best. Well, if The Jetson's cartoons are to be believed anyway.

But back in the day (like 1993 when I was 18) I was the only one of my friends that had a beeper and cell phones were only owned by bad guys in the movies. It was a simpler life. You actually had to go out and meet people. There was no sitting in your room surfing the net or going "live" on the XBox.

You actually had to go out and socialize with people. I fear that todays youth hide behind their PC and online names. Thus breeds the attitudes that most of society hates.

I definitely don't like what our society is today. Our society is way too reliant on the government and technology. If anything were to ever happen that would take either of those away from us can you imagine how many people would just die because they can't take care of themselves? Can you imagine people not being able to go the store and buy food? Very few people knows how to raise their own food or hunt for food anymore. Our society has turned into a bunch of lazy, and reliant on the governement people. Besides that people today don't care about anyone bet themselves. 40 years ago for example almost everyone knew their neighbors. Today very little people knows their neighbors and they don't want too. They just hide behind their barred windows and dead bolted doors and are content with it. In my opinion this is one reason why the crime rate is so high. People don't know each other so they don't care to break into their house while they are at work.

And it is just going to get worse. The best days are definitely behind us.

Seriously I can't stand it. I swear my entire generation is either socially inept. Or have no idea what the fuck is going on. It's pathetic. And I'm talking on a College level, and THEY HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT ANYTHING. If I ask them if the scarftv matches the sweater they could tell me. If I asked them who the presidential candidates were. They'd half-ass clueless guesses. Even the kids who are straight A students, have no fucking clue how stupid they are. I mean I admit to hiding behind my computer a lot, but I do know how to act in a social environment. And unlike some of the pompous jerk offs out there, I have manners. You wonder why I don't eat in commons? Basically they chew with their mouthes hanging open. And it pisses the fuck out of me. Close your fucking mouth and chew your food.

Yeah people always look at the past and lament on how good those times where in comparison to today. However if you went back in time and heard yourself I would imagine you would be saying that, that time sucked too. There's a word for it somewhere but I've had a hard day and can't remember.

Personally I am not too peeved with my generation but the kids I see in school today just outright frighten me sometimes. I had some 13 years olds today talking about stuff I didn't even know existed when I was 13 and that was only 10 years ago and I knew quite a bit back then but jesus these kids were just wrong.

On the plus side if I ever loose my job I can pretty much guarantee I'll be in demand because of my ability to breath unaided and spell which I am not certain the next generation will be able to do. Its like that Korn video on devolution. We evolved from apes and we will devole back to apes in time.
