Sex and human rights
There was a programme on TV last night here in the UK (can't even remember it's name, didn't watch it) but the issue was something I thought we could discuss here.
Basically, it involved a woman with a mental age of just five becoming pregnant by her boyfriend who suffered with downs syndrome.
What's your take on whether these individuals have the basic human right to have sex, and where do you stand on any consequences (such as pregnancy)?
If she has a mental age of just 5, how was she aware of what sex is? And surely wouldnt she recoil at the idea of a man touching her in that way, as you do at that age? Just a question.
I don't know if I can agree with that. Surely with both of their conditions, they are still living at home, or at least under "supervision" of their parents/guardians?
I would wonder when they would find the time to "sneak away" and have sex. That would have been an interesting show to watch, for sure.
And now, here it is...your moment of Carlin (12/3/2008)
Violent American movies like Die Hard, Terminator, and Lethal Weapon do very well in places like Canada, Japan, and Europe. Very well. Yet these countries do not have nearly the violence of the United States. In 1989, in all of Japan, with a population of 150 million, there were 754 murders. In New York City that year, with a population of only 7.5 million, there were 2,300. It's bred in the bone. Movies and television don't make you violent; all they do is channel the violence more creatively.
I don't think they should have kids, because it would be unfair to the child, but you can't stop people from having sex just because they are mentally chalenged or what ever. In my town there is a couple who live on their own, and are married. They are pretty retarded too, you can tell by listening to them and talking to them. They act like they're 8 years old. But they do fine on their own anyways.
