Re: Dilemma at work

Where I work we get a 25 cent raise on the hour every year on the anniversary of our hire date.

That way, we don't have to ask.

The one incident when I did have to ask is rare. It is the only time I have had to ask in the six years I have been employed there.

Park the old car that I love the best
Inspections due and it won't pass the test
Funny how I have to put it to rest
And someday I will join it.

Re: Dilemma at work

Definately keep asking, obviously they realise the problem there otherwise they wouldnt have said tht theyd sort it for you. Like someone else said, theyre probably keeping it quiet hoping they can get away with it, thats what my boss does. But I can be annoying and just will not shut up!!

Men never grow up, they just grow older.

At work, for most of our floor, they do $750 per quarter. A ton of incentive pay though.

I get raises every so often ... entirely performance based. If my department comes in under budget, I do really well that quarter. Over budget, and I don't see any kind of raise. I enjoy it that way.

This year I should be looking at a really nice bonus & raise. We'll find out soon.

Re: Dilemma at work

I'm a grocery man myself, and have been in an almost identical situation. My advice is to see if there are any natural or organic type stores near you to work for. They tend to be run by liberals who more freely give away pay and benefits.

For example, I started working for a certain natural/organic foods chain, and my pay went from about where you are to almost double based on experience, I have health insurance and other benefits, plus opportunities to advance in the company, something I never had before.

Being a good worker at most grocery stores will get you respect, but respect don't pay the bills, does it? Look for places that will compensate your hard work, not exploit it. Shop around (quietly), if they aren't willing to pay you, you don't owe them any loyalty - and if you do get an offer, you have a bargaining chip if you really want to stay with them.

Just some things to think about.
