Are we talking about men/women, black/white, what?
I've been looking into whether or not this country is ready to elect an African-American president and the answer is...no chance in hell.
Sure, where most of us live, we don't see color of person for the most part, unless they are walking down the street all dressed in red bandanas, flashing signs, and screaming obscenities. However, the south is still extremely set their ways. They might elect a black congressman, but c'mon.. a black guy to THE position? I don't see it happening.
I don't see a woman being elected either although we're getting very close to that. Hilary might have a solid chance. Much better then any other female I could think of.
What is happening right now is that the minorities are slowly becoming the majority. White people are the new minority. People are trying so hard to be politically correct that they tip toe around issues the real issues.

True in terms of what? Some kind of all-encompassing equality is literally impossible, and if it somehow were possible, the result would be billions of half-breed hermaphroditic robots (a world of Tyler Durdens, you might say).
In a more general, industrial sense, I still say no, not a chance. I don't know how long the world will last, but I honestly don't think women will ever get a fair shake. Female equality is certainly progressing in our society (not so much in others), but so too I think is the male strangle-hold on the world we live in.
I just started working in a government office and I couldn't believe how true every single last one of the office stereotypes I've ever heard is. The department where I work (National Pharmaceuticals Strategy, FTW!) is entirely male, except for one attractive female secretary who serves to wander from office to office, distracting the bosses from their work. (And I'm not using that example to criticize women -- if anything, it's a comment on how men still control societal roles.)
Wow, it's funny how I completely assumed this was about equality between the sexes, Dakstang thought it was between whites and minorities, and Blitz thought it might be both.
We aren't becoming the minority though..us white people. Maybe in numbers yes, but who is controlling this country? Who controls the government, the corporations, big business?
The elitists are hoping that the blacks, hispanics, etc.. will continue to sit back and live in poverty and be happy to get a check on the 1st to score some crack and a .40oz..
But let me ask you.. hat if they do get their shit together, go through the legal process and start to elect their own into offices, higher positions..

what will the white people do then.. OH NO!
Let me ask you this. What if a white person in a high position of power would say something bad about the inner city?
He would have Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson outside his work place protesting and he would probably eventually lose his job for it.
People in this country are forced to tip toe around any issue that might make any minority look bad...even if they are not saying anything bad about the minority itself....or risk losing their job.
Now you tell me who really runs this country.
