thinking Age Differences

Whats your opinion on age differences between a man and a woman who are together?

Is it acceptable in all cases or just for the man to be older than the woman? And not the other way around?

Or is it just something put around by fussy people with their crazy prejudices??

Re: Age Differences

I myself have a seven year age gap and have known my wife for around 14 years now. I was 24 and she was 17 when we first met. She is more mature than I am, certainly (back then) I was a very young 24 year old, and she was really quite grown up about matters.

Personally, I don't think it matters as long as the two people are above the age of consent and have respect for each other. Though, there does come a point where it is just a bit too "icky". I do think that point changes depending on the age of the younger person. For example, an 18 year old with someone up to their early 30's is still fine by me (of either sex), but once it gets towards mid to late 30's, it's a bit "yuk".

However, if the younger one was in the mid 20's plus then I'd see nothing much wrong with them being with someone up to their late 40's even early 50's. Probably anything beyond that would just be too weird, though I'm sure some have found happiness that way (if only for an hour or two!)

Re: Age Differences

I'm 24 currently, and my wife is a few months younger than me. The closest I came to this personally was back when I was in high school. I was a senior at the time, 18 years old, and dating a freshman in high school, she was 15.

The thing with our school is that freshman were part of the junior high school, so we didn't even attend the same school at the time. For a senior to date a "junior high girl", it seemed like rocking the cradle. However, we were just having fun and whatnot, so I didn't seem to mind. But there were many differences; for instance, I was getting ready to go to college, and my girlfriend couldn't even drive yet!

But anyway, I think as long as the two are happy, it doesn't matter what the age difference is. My buddy (25) was dating a girl who was 41 for a few months, and she had a 16 year old daughter. (yes, do the math..) It was odd becuase he was closer in age to the daughter, but was dating the mom. It got to the point where she was getting tired around midnight on the weekends when we were all hanging out, and would FALL ASLEEP at the bar at times. This is right around the time of night things started to get interesting! Needless to say, my buddy got bored with her and dumped her right after that. Must be hell getting old (right grandpa Durden?)

Do you have a problem with my sig?

Re: Age Differences

I think as long they're both over 16, it doesn't matter.

Re: Age Differences

I've dated older women before I got married.

In my experience they all wanted to treat me like their kid and would have the tendency to tell me what to do, how to dress, etc. They were also very controlling.

I suppose age difference does not matter as much as personalities but at the same time you have to look at the two people and how they "mesh"

My wife is 7 years younger than me and you have never met two more inseparable people in your life.

Re: Age Differences

The last person I was seeing was 19 to my 25 and it worked quite well, although a lot of people gave me some stick for being a 'cradle snatcher' We got on well together and he was quite grown up in some senses, maybe moreso than myself.

Ive often thought that if I was the male in that relationship, nobody would have given it a second thought - there'd be no cradle snatcher jokes, it would just be accepted.

yet another male/female double standard?? Thoughts?

I wouldn't think so. Certainly not in my case, I was always being "jokingly" referred to as someone that must have been waiting outside the school gates. Usually by the same guys that would later be asking if she had kept her school uniform!!

Re: Age Differences

My dad was 34 and my mom was 21 when they got married. It worked out well for them so I don't really see a problem with it. I would kind of feel weird dating a woman much older than me though. Maybe about five years older than me but not much more than that.

Maybe it is just the fact that it is not the normally accepted relationship in our society.

I also think about health issues later on in life.
