Shawshank Redemption, which was filmed at the old Ohio State Reformatory. It closed around 1990, and has since been re-opened for tours. I took part in their overnight stay program, which gives you free access to the whole prison from 7PM to 7AM at night. Lights off, and no guide. Because of the haste move out of there, a lot of the former bunk beds, toilets, and trash is still inside the prison; in one prison cell there was actually homework from one of the juvenile detention center "attendee's" still located in the prison cell. However history was NOT the reason why I was there, but rather for what is currently going on there. There are several claims that the prison is haunted by several ghosts; tuberculosis victims, former prisoners, guards, and one that I felt was the most prominent, the warden's wife, who was either murdered or was victim to an accidental gunshot wound to the chest. For those of you who watch the TV show Taps, they did an entire special based on the place and several paranormal instances. On one cell which they marked with an X because so much was centered around it, we had a guy with us first nearly get pushed down, but also scratched straight down the back. The most interesting part is that we had the camera on him the whole time. Another guy who was with us had to leave the reformatory to regain his composure after he was almost pushed down the stairs and then "flicked" in the back of the head. Several of the volunteers who are in charge of the restoration and upkeep of the facility reported being pushed that night, and believe that the "ghosts" were rather agitated as it was the first open house of the season. I didn't have any real physical contact, however there were several circumstances in the place where I definitely got scared. In the meat cellar we had a real interesting experience where the temperature drastically dropped in a matter of seconds, however several of us then experienced burning sensations over various parts of our body. I felt it up in my upper arm, and then in my fingers. Along with that there several temperature and just eery feelings at certain parts of the building. In one of the tuberculosis wards we occasionally saw shadows, other visitors also saw them, and one guy reported being pushed again. Of course there were a lot of random noises, but those I don't hold with any real weight as we're talking about a 100 year old jail. The one significant thing that I also had happen was walking up the stairs, my jeans actually like instantly hugged to my body, and my right leg was extremely heavy. It was like something was holding on to it -- definitely not adult weight, but more of like a young child. I forget to add this in originally, however I feel that warden's wife was the most prominent in the place, as randomly you would smell roses, which is reportedly one of her favorite scents to wear perfume wise, and she was a big fan of the flower. I didn't even know the history, but once we walked into the Warden's office, me and the other guy quickly picked up on the smell, and some other people with us filled us in. Also in her bed room where she died, there were several extremely strange creaking noises like someone walking across the floor even though we were sitting.
