My mum was chatting to my grandad the other day about our family history and about how she couldn't find my grandads family before 1901 and it turns out his side of the family were australian which makes me slightly australian which means me & Eric {thirty7} could be related somehow

You know Pocahontas and John Smith? I don't know if the Brits or Aussies will since it's more of an American disney "fairy tale."
Well, I found out a little while ago that we're somehow related to him. It encouraged me to do some more research, where I found out on Webroots.com a whole ton of history from relatives that were involved in the American Civil War (north, of course), and further that we're related to Williamm Bradford III, the son of the Governor of the Plymouth Rock Colony.
It was interesting looking at the history, and my family became really how it is now.
All of my family is white as far as i knew until, at a family reunion a few black ladies and guys showed claiming they were Griffins (my last name) people knew them so I guess my family has black in it....

That's kind of interesting. I think anymore almost all families are becoming more and more diverse with the cultures and races. The only thing they truly share is a last name.
I found out one of my relatives was in the Civil War (Fighting for the South) and died in a Yankee prison camp in Indiana 8 days before the end of the war.
He was only 21.
Pretty sucky deal.
