Cruelty to Animals

Several studies have shown that if somone is cruel to animals as a child, or kills animals as a child they will end up doing the same to humans. Many serial killers started out killing animals. I am sure that all of us have witnessed cruelty to animals or knew someone that has been cruel to animals.

So do you think there is any truth to this? Is being cruel to animals a clue to what is to come?

Its a very vague statement and blankets a lot of people what you just said but it doesn't surprise when I hear that serial killers where cruel to animals in their youth.

I will be more specific.

What do you think of kids being cruel to animals?

A lot of people don't seem to have a problem with it and just play it off as "Kids will be kids" but I think there is more to it than that.

What do you think?

I think if I saw someone hurting an animal, I would scratch their face off.

It's hard to define 'cruelty' though. I eat meat, and have a pair of leather boots. Some people see this as cruel, but I don't. I personally don't hunt, but I know people who do, and I don't really take issue with it, so long as the animal isn't being tourtured.

A few years ago, the kids in the school yard were throwing rocks at my dog. These kids are total jerks, yes, but do I think they will grow up to be murders? No. I think you guys are talking along the terms of like, kicking a puppy or burning a kitty with a lighter. I think there is something sick and twisted about a person like that, because if they can hurt and innocent animal, they can hurt anything, with little regret. I would like to hurt this person, and would have little regret.

I think if a kid is cruel to animals they are more likely to kill humans, but I dont believe that all or most kids that are cruel carry that on to adulthood

Re: Cruelty to Animals

I think that anyone above around the age of 10 knows better and if they hurt animals on purpose, that shows some serious problems.

I know a lot of kids in school that would brag about shooting stray dogs and bragging about how "....there head exploded" and laughing about it!

I think that is just horrible and I think that people should take if very serious when they see someone harming an animal on purpose. I am not talking hunting here, I am talking like cats and dogs.

Like people said before me, it depends on the level of cruelty. My cat probably hated me, cause i was cruel to it, but only in the sense of I sometimes put clothes on it and used to tease it a bit. Yes, that was cruel, and alot of children do that - but I guess the extreme kind of stuff, like Erin mentioned could possibly be an indicator of future problems.
Men never grow up, they just grow older.

Re: Cruelty to Animals

Obviously, I can't abide cruelty to animals, and would report it if I saw any.

Actually have never seen anyone being cruel to an animal before (thankfully), although I did witness a slug being "salted" as a child.

This might explain my compulsion to insanely murder lots of people.

Re: Cruelty to Animals

I think there are different levels of cruelty. If someone hacks off a kitten's head, thaty might be a little more likely to kill someone.

But I have thrown a cat across the room when I was little, but haven't killed anyone.....yet.
