They call that "Wild Turkey Hunting" where you walk around in the woods and do nothing but look at trees and drink Wild Turkey.

Re: Hunting

Ohhh another one....

whale hunting. I think thats the worst one out there tbh. To kill such a big animal and use so little of it for good is a waste.
And the seals, clubing them to death, some people need help with there anger or they need a sex life.

On a side note, i think greenpeace have taken over mind or something today lol

Re: Hunting

Wow, I'm probably going to be the most unwelcome person in this thread.. You asked, so here are my thoughts:

I'll start by saying this: I am a avid hunter. I would hunt every day if I didn't have to support my family by working... I enjoy it that much, however I do hunt for sport, but never kill anything I won't eat, or donate to less fortunate people that can't afford "meat".

Turkey Hunting - Turkeys are extremely intelligent bird. This makes hunting them very exciting, because as compared to animals of less intellect, they can see and hear you coming most times before you know they are near.

Deer Hunting - (My Favorite BTW) I have hunted every year, for about the last ten years. Although I own several guns, I prefer to hunt with a bow. Just about anyone can stand in a tree stand, in the middle of a field, or top of a knoll and pick off a deer that is grazing 100 yards away (Provided they are a decent shot), but to hunt deer with a bow, there is a whole science to it. Deer are colorblind, which helps a little bit when it comes to not being seen, but deer have a keen sense of smell and hearing. When hunting deer, you have to be camouflaged, descented, and quite. Compared to using a gun, typical shooting range for a deer with a bow is about 20 yard, although it's not unheard of to be capable of shooting one at 40 yards with a bow. The reason I enjoy deer hunting so much is, unlike turkey hunting, you typically can see or hear a deer coming. This means, while you are set, waiting for the deer to come into view, you can take some time to relax and enjoy the scenery. Being in the woods is quite peaceful, especially when you have children at home .

Then, when the deer approaches, your adrenaline starts to rush, you get butterflies in your stomach... it's quite exciting. Deer makes great Jerky, burger, steaks, etc.... and you get alot in return from your kill. Where I hunt, the farmer that owns the property is very poor, so poor, he cannot even afford to farm his land. 1/2 of every deer I harvest, I process the meat and give to him and his father. I am keeping the population down, and feeding myself and others when I deer hunt.

Fox hunting - I'm not a big fan of fox hunting or trapping. I think you are a little wrong thinking that the dogs always get the fox. I haven't fox hunted, but y understanding is the dogs simply chase the fox and corner it in a tree, or inside a log, and the hunter is the one that kills it. I don't know of many dogs that are fast enough or smart enough to actually catch a fox. But this part of hunting as I said, I am not familiar with. I don't think foxes or other animals should be hunted solely for the pelts, furs, etc....

Bear Hunting - This is something I haven't done yet, but I will one day. The same as with hunting deer, only far more dangerous, and again, for the sport and for the food. If I participate in bear hunting, and find that I don't enjoy eating bear, then that will be my last time. Like deer, the bear population needs to be controlled, so I have no problem with people hunting either of these species of animals as long as the remains go to feeding someone.

Whales, seals, lions, and all those exotic species... I'm not knowledgeable enough to know about what is actually hunted for food, but I can imagine in particular, whales, and seals are hunted solely for thier blubber / fat / tusks... which is not necessary. Lions, gazelle, etc down in Africa... I believe most people are hunting them strictly for sport and to showcase thier "trophy" to thier buddies. Unless there is a population issue, I don't think it's right to hunt them, of course unless it's for food, as I mentioned before.

As far if you agree or disagree with hunters, think about this:

If it weren't for hunters, you, the non hunter would have no state parks, no reservoirs, no natural resources to use at your free will. The revenue generated by licensing fees go directly to the US fish and wildlife service, and are apportioned to the US states. Did you know, the income taxes YOU pay, only cover 10% of the necessary funds to help support wildlife conservation, hunter education, natural resources, state forest, etc! 10%! A minuscule amount is provided through private donations, however hunter licensing fees cover the REST... that right. I, and every other hunter out there, pay for all of you NON HUNTERS to enjoy those resources. So remember, it's ok to not agree with hunting, but please, never tell a hunter he has no right to do what he does. Without hunters, our natural resources would disappear, animal population would overcome the human population in a matter of years (10-20 years!). There would be huge amounts of personal property damage (cars, homes, etc) and more attacks on man because the animals would have no areas for themselves / be over populated...

Wow, I got off on some kinda tangent... didn't mean to get all into posting a sermon...

Anyway, I guess you get my point of view. Whether you agree or not, the only bad hunter is a uneducated hunter, or one who does not obey the laws.

Re: Hunting

I can understand everything you said felix, the fox one though more often then not the dog do kill the fox but the 'hunters' ,i use the term hunters lightly, say they killed the fox to make it sound better.

When i started the thread i didnt mean for it be aint-hunting i mean for it to get a point across that there is hunting and then there is just doing to watch a animal get ripped open by another.

not does that look like a nice death? no it does not.

that is more of a real hunter.

That is another perfect example of the hunting experience. My boys, ages 7 and 10, went hunting with me this year for the first time and absolutly loved it... know why? Because of what you just said... it wasn't about when or if we were going to kill something, it was about the time we spent together.. which these days is less than I would like to admit. Those experiences with the out in the woods will be something that they, and I won't ever forget.

Re: Hunting

I understand hunting and respect hunting, to be honest i would most prob like it but i dont see the fun i killing whales, foxes, seals and other animals that have no way out.

With a gun you can miss they can run you have a harder target to hit it has a better chance of living. In my eyes theres hunting in the right way and hunting to see something 'cool'

And ill have a looka at the blog if you PM the link or something, im open minded so ill have a look and see what i think lol

Re: Hunting

To make hunting more fair for the animal...

I think if you take a shot at them and miss, they should be able to attack you back. Like, for every shot missed, they take 1 bite out of your arm.

They could post that on Pay-Per-View about once a month, and I'd buy it.
And now, here it is...your moment of Carlin (12/3/2008)

Violent American movies like Die Hard, Terminator, and Lethal Weapon do very well in places like Canada, Japan, and Europe. Very well. Yet these countries do not have nearly the violence of the United States. In 1989, in all of Japan, with a population of 150 million, there were 754 murders. In New York City that year, with a population of only 7.5 million, there were 2,300. It's bred in the bone. Movies and television don't make you violent; all they do is channel the violence more creatively.

Re: Hunting

Now i guessing from looking at the photos the deer was dead from the first shot. All the work done on the deer looks clean and not like a dog has ripped it open eat what it wants and the gone running back to horses.

To me what i have just looked at is more like hunting, a man, his gun and fair play.

And jayman on youtube there is a video of a man shooting a lion and he misses and it almost tackels him. Ill look for it and post it some time to day.
