PS3 almost sells out Japan

he PlayStation 3 has sold a total of 88,400 units out of 100,000 in the first two days since its Saturday release, according to a Reuters report. The article cites Japanese gaming mag Famitsu for the numbers. Ridge Racer 7 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire were the top sellers at 30,000 each with Resistance: Fall of Man coming in third at around 16,000.

But some consumers have discovered that not all of their older games work properly with the new system. Sony had billed the PS3 as fully backwards compatible, but has now reversed that claim and admitted there are some problems.

"We are sorry for the game fans that they cannot play all the games," Sony spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka said in a separate AP report. "But unfortunately some of these problems could not be avoided."

Around 200 games are said to have issues, and Sony has a website set up so that concerned gamers can check on compatibility for specific games.

Similar issues are bound to affect U.S. PS3s, but we will hopefully get some kind of firmware upgrades to help with the problem.

lol, PS3 is already messing up, I preordered one so i hope it doesnt do this in usa. We all knew it was going to mess up. just another reason for me to get a wii.

That was like dam. They would get much money and I cant beleve it. So much PS3 they are good at electrisety. PS3 is a great but so much get so much money to buy a PS3 is strange.

Nothing suprising here....It was said before that sony may revise their shipments, so some expected another cut or a delay.

I heard they gonna sell those games like hell but I couldnt belive they would sell like this. I got to buy one my self. I seems like good kvality on the game.

The reason why soime of the older Sony games dosent work is because it is to high tech for it to play. I think all the the ps1 games dont work. They said they were going to try and fix it but i dont know if thats all true. There might be some firmware or you might need to buy something extra if they make it. Most of the PS2 gmaes should work though. The only reason why im getting a PS3 is because of Resistance: Fall of Man. That game is flippen awsome. Don't think of the bad things. What would you rather be able to do, play all sony games or be able to go online and save pictures and videos and music and have a hard drive? If they made it like a ps2 where you can play ps1 and 2 games, then there is no point in making the PS3. But still, its an awsome system.
