Prostitution

We have a serial killer making the headlines in the UK at present, suspected of killing five street walking prostitutes.

I've been to Amsterdam, where basically a very different system is in place....police turn a blind eye to their "activities", they have a designated red-light area for those people to go to.

It seems, on the face of it, that the more laws that are bought in to kerb this matter, the more it goes underground and therefore the seedier and more hazardous it becomes to both those dirty ol' men and the girls themselves.

Is it better to have designated areas, if not legitimised then at least turned a blind eye to, or should the whole thing be kept underground due to it's (very low) moral status.

Lastly, give us $10 and I'll jerk you off jerkey!!

It's a sad that it is accepted. But I think it should be underground if done because subjecting it to the public, whether it is in a " roped of area" or whatever is still wrong to me. I personally would rather know nothing of it and not see it. If I am a tourist, chances are I may end up stumbling into the wrong areas, if it is underground those chances lessen.

I wouldn't want it going any more underground than it already is. Simply put, I value peoples lives and, since it's not an industry that is ever going to go away, I don't feel politicians (in particular) should turn a blind eye to it. But I'm a realist....it's hardly a vote winner for them!!

I prefer the "brothel" system simply because it keeps all concerned much much safer and, whilst not regulating it, it does make it easier to control.

The more underground it goes, the more those that do it (the vast amount to pay for a drug habit) are likely to fall prey to people such as this serial killer.

I'm just looking out for ho's and dealers everywhere. Merry Christmas

I don't get that argument at all.

1.) Brothels in Amsterdam are hardly safe. Lot of underground gang killing over them brothels or in them brothels.

2.) Prostitution is not gonna go away. Neither is murder, or shop lifting, or drug trafficing. Should we turn a blind eye to that too. Maybe we should have a murder zone. If you walk in there you're fair game.

I think the best system is like the The Moonlite BunnyRanch in Nevada.

That way it is not happening on the streets.

Hypocrisy at it's worst!

Yup, I think prostitution should be legal everywhere and they should have places like the bunny ranch all over..

It'd be a lot safer, they could test the women like they do in porn, etc..

I still wouldn't go myself, no need to.

I agree with that. They should limit how many they have and put them in appropriate areas of course though.

Hypocrisy at it's worst!

But it is pointless. If you think that every prostitute in the country would go work on a Bunny Ranch you're naive. If itis made legal they'd still be on the streets because it's easier and you can do what you want that way.

Plus it doesn't escape the fact that just because it happens means its ok to legalize it. Whats next? Oh drug dealing to 13 year olds is ok, it happens all the time. Lets set up a shop on the corner so the kids can safely buy their smack instead of getting it down a back alley.

Oh and if you want to murder someone or rape someone which happens all the time as well then do in the designated area and clean up after and no charges will be pressed.

Bet they'd still fine you for driving over the speed limit though at 2am in the morning on a deserted road.
