A question for the god squad

Oh I know, I'm only joking, I don't think you're a "God Squad" really, but the fact is we have quite a large number of Christians on this site.

Now me, I'm completely non-religious but I do wonder one thing here.

What is our Christians opinion of Christmas and how it is celebrated?

Does it get your goat a bit that, what is meant to be a Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus is instead a corporate frenzy where huge parts of the populous bastardise the celebration by spending the whole month spending great wads of cash on unnecessary gifts and being almost completely drunk from 1st December onwards.

Or alternatively, is it that it actually still heartens you that most of these things are done with the thought of being with others and celebrating (even though they're not correctly celebrating?) and maybe generally being of "goodwill"

This won't be really adding anything to the thread but isn't it funny how everyone discusses Christmas these days? At least with the people I know. They aren't interested in what you'll be doing, all they want to know is "Whatcha getting?"

Personally, I love the time of year, and if people want to celebrate it as a meaningless consumer holiday, then that's there own perogative. Personally, in my family it's still a religous time, and we celebrate it as that. We've never been really big on the whole present thing, so we just tend to buy each other little things, like a DVD or book. The only thing that really annoys me is the use of the word Xmas instead of Christmas, because I find it deeply insulting that the very reason for the holiday has been crossed out.

And if I was to have said that in a national newspaper, I probably would have been branded a racist. But that is today's World for you.

I'm not particularly religious (although I do believ ein God), and I hate Christmas. But not because of the commercialization of a religious holiday. I hate the cold, I hate shopping during this time (because everybody and their mother is out at the stores), I hate all the spending I have to do. It's really annoying

For me, we celebrate it the same as anyone else would. We do the presents and family time just like everyone else, but we keep in mind the reason for the season my friend. I usually set some time aside personally to reflect on things as well... But the one thing that is done religiously (not having anything to do with my religion though ) IS watching at least 2 showings of "A Christmas Story" back to back on TBS.

My family celebrates Christmas as a religous holiday still. We decorate the house and have a Christmas tree and exchange gifts. We also spend time as a family and reflect on what this time of year means.

I do christmas pretty much like everyone. christmas tree, lights, presents and what not. but I also do acknowledge what the day is about. And I wish more people would.

I also hate when people write it X-Mas.. It takes the CHRIST out of it.

I like christmas less and less each year. I can't afford to buy gifts, I don't expect any back either. But I celebrate like most though, the tree and lights, as well as the family thing, but I don't celebrate it as a religious thing either.
