What is this thread about? lol. I'm an organ donor if that's what you mean, and I'm not trying to be sick for once, I do have it right on my Driver's liscence because really.. what am I gonna need them for?

That's right. Organ donor....we call them Donor Cards, same thing I'm guessing

Yeah, I didn't even think twice about it. If I could save another couple lives, then I'm all for it.

I probably should, considering my father's life was saved by a heart donor.

In fact, on my grad school applications, they asked about unique personal experiences and how it could impact campus diversity, and I talked about how my father ha a heart transplant, and how I want to raise awareness of the need for organ donors. Whoops...

It's funny though, some really paranoid people think that if you are listed as a donor, they will try less hard to save you in an emergency. Like, they need the organs so bad, that if you're listed as a donor, they'll let you die so they can take your organs. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard

There's always been a motion over here that it should be made law to "flip/reverse" this whole process and that, should you not wish to have your organs donated you should have to carry a card.

That way there is no need to contact next of kins for permission (delaying, sometimes crucially) the availability of the organ in question. They can just whip em' off your rotting corpse the very second you pop the mortal coil. We'd pretty soon be inundated with organs.....much like Chewy.

Oh sure, there are human "rights" and all to appease but I'm in favour of this, even though I can quite clearly see it's complete idiocy!!

But Dak, did you ever think about how being a donor could save somebody's life if, God forbid, something should ever happen to you?

I was reading recently that there was a lot of talk of giving doctor's the authority to take organs without consent, if it's a match to a person in critical need of the organ. I don't know if that would ever come about, because it's a political minefield, and in a World where kids aren't allowed to play conkers without wearing safety goggles first, something like this would just cause more problems than it creates.
