They appear to be the same idea, but are basically rival competitions.

Miss Universe is the one owned by Donald Trump and has about 80 delegates.

Miss World has over 100 delegates and is the one that requires you to win a national contest like the Miss America pageant.

So the Miss World seems to be the more popular and important one, although Miss Universe appears to be more popular in Asia and Latin America.
