Should I Join the Samaritans?

I'm probably naive for thinking this organisation doesnt exist throughout the world, but in case you didnt know, the Samaritans is like a call center for people with general problems in their life. Drugs, kids, abuse, etc.

My mom joined it, and she tries hard and is apparently pretty good at giving advice (She goes with my aunt who says that mums really good) but when she goes, I get about 3 or 4 calls from her and asked what advice she should give. Really awkward situations but I always manage to come out with solid ideas.

I'm just thinking that maybe I should help people with actual problems. As well as the fact it would be interesting. I dont get paid, its volunteer.

I think this is the first pure thought I've ever had in my entire life.

As long as you're metal skinned enough to cope with the fact that most of these losers, I mean people, will just go off and screw up again after your wise words then run with it. I guess if you just get through to or help one person out of however many then it's still worthwhile.

Let's face it, you don't have anything else to do of an evening

Well now I have started working, it was impossible to get a job (Seemingly my friends!) as I know about 20 people who have been trying since May, but I got a few shifts which should go up to a full time summer thing.

Along with joining a footie team, my free time is about to get limited, especially as I also plan on knobbing one of the waitresses at work for predominantly the whole summer

This week, I'd have time for Samaritans on Thursday night, thats it.

You are right though, they will just go off and get fucked up again. But I love the challenge of finding that one person to actually change. I've always been good at advice generally, I think I could make a difference.

This is such an odd feeling, wanting to help people, for no money. Miakal would be ashamed

The one downside of the one person you do get through to is that you ultimately don't see their healing through. They ring off, they don't know your name, you can't get thanked by them etc. My (weak) character is such that I like to get thanked royally if I've done something well, none of your "your reward will be in heaven" clap trap.

Good luck with the waitress though. Is she pre or post op?

Your smooth talking bedside manner will undoubtedly charm the kitchen gloves off of her.
