I don't know if any of you have been following the news but it looks like North Korea is going to test a ballistic missle that is capable of reaching the U.S. mainland. This is a pretty serious event. Japan made a statement the other day that any launch that went over Japan would be taken as an act of war, they later retracted that statement and said that it would be a serious matter if North Korea launched a missle. The U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice leveled a warning Monday that "it would be a very serious matter and indeed a provocative act" if North Korea tested a long-range ballistic missile. Seems like this is a pretty serious turn of events. So what do you all think? Should the testing of a long range ballistic missle by North Korea be considered an act of War? Is this the beginning of the end of Kim Jong Il's reign?

It's known that North Korea hates the US and that they are trying to make a nuclear bomb, so I think them testing long range ballistic missile is a serious threat. Bush would also have a lot more support for fighting NK than he ever did for Iraq. |

Rep Power: 15 ![]() | Bush had no reason to invade(and I mean invade since the war was illegal) Iraq, especially since neither the country nor Hussein had connections to al-Qaeda and that was one of the big reasons for it. North Korea is perceived as a thread by most countries and if they got the ability to use long range missiles that could reach the US and had nuclear bombs, then I think more people would think it necessary to fight them and stop them. I was/am against the Iraq war but I would support a war with North Korea in this case. |

Hindsight is 20/20. BTW, there are confirmed reports that Bin Laden had visited Bagdad within the last ten years and that there were ties between him and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi so pretending that there were not Al Qaeda ties in the region is preposterous. Iraq was a safe harbor for terrorists.

Rep Power: 59 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Update: This comes from foxnews.com Report: U.S. Activates Missile Defense System Over N. Korea Test Tuesday, June 20, 2006 TOKYO — The United States has activated its new ground-based interceptor missile defense system in response to a possible North Korean missile test, according to a published report. A Washington Times story in Tuesday's editions says the United States is considering intercepting the missile if North Korea goes ahead with the test. The U.S. missile defense system is described in the article of being made up by 11 long-range interceptor missiles, including nine deployed at Fort Greeley, Alaska, and two at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. The system was switched from test to operational mode within the past two weeks, the officials said. The report quotes unnamed U.S. officials as saying two Navy Aegis warships are patrolling in waters off the Korean peninsula and would be among the first sensors that would trigger the use of interceptors. A senior Bush administration official is quoted as saying that an option being considered is to shoot down the Taepodong-2 missile. The report came after Pyongyang declared Tuesday it is free to conduct missile tests despite a self-imposed moratorium, saying it is not bound by prior agreements and that outsiders have no right to criticize its actions.

Rep Power: 19 ![]() | North Korea would never attack us because their missle can only reach Alaska. After they attacked there we'd pummel them beyond hope and Jung Il, brother of Mentally Il, isn't quite that messed up in the head. And these interceptor missile are pretty worthless. It's just a way for Bush to rake some more money into his collection basket. They aren't going to protect you any. As for the Iraq argument, that's over. Read the CIA reports. |

The missle defense system has had some success in tests. If you ask me it is better to be prepared than sticking your fingers in your ears and screaming "NO ONE CAN REACH US WITH THEIR MISSLES".

Rep Power: 59 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Update: North Korea now has up to five more missles ready to launch after the launch of the missles the other day. None of them are the long range type however. This situation is going to end up bad is all I can say.
