Dixie Chicks strike again

Dixie Chicks' Maines Says U.S. President Owed 'No Respect Whatsoever'

Sunday, May 21, 2006

NEW YORK — The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines apologized for disrespecting President George W. Bush during a London concert in 2003. But now, she's taking it back.

"I don't feel that way anymore," she told Time magazine for its issue hitting newsstands Monday. "I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever."
As war in Iraq loomed in 2003, Maines told the London audience: "Just so you know, we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."
The remarks led to death threats and a backlash from other U.S. country stars, including a high-profile spat with Toby Keith. It also stalled what until then had been the group's smashingly successful career.

Bandmate Emily Robinson said she knew right away the remark wouldn't be taken lightly and got "hot from my head to my toes."
"It wasn't that I didn't agree with her 100 percent; it was just, 'Oh, this is going to stir something up,"' she told Time magazine.

For band member Martie Maguire, the controversy was a blessing in disguise.
"I'd rather have a small following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith," Maguire said. "We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do."
The Chicks' hits include "Landslide," "Goodbye Earl" and "Wide Open Spaces." Their new album, "Taking the Long Way," is due out May 23. The first single is "Not Ready to Make Nice."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Man, Natalie Maines really flushed the Dixie Chicks career down the toilet didn't she?

Hypocrisy at it's worst!

I still cannot get over the fact that she says that the leader of the free world does not deserve any respect what so ever.

It is obvious now that the only reason she apologized in the first place was to hopefully get their record sells back, but it did not work so she took her apology back........:1laugh:

I don't ever hear their songs on the radio anymore. I bet her bandmates will like her now that they have no career!!

Hypocrisy at it's worst!

I know I don't have any respect for our current President. He took my civil liberties away, so as far as I'm concerned this isn't a free "world" anymore.

As far as Nathalie Maines goes, I never understood the negative reaction they got for that. It's called free speech. She and the rest of the Dixie Chicks should have been allowed to say whatever they wanted about the government without radio stations taking their music off the air. It was ridiculous.

When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

The only reason they got negative reaction was because the war was still new and conservatives accusde any one who was against the war of being un-patriotic. I bet if someone made those comments now nobody would care.

I don't respect our current president either. It doesn't help his case when he admits that the NSA is (illegally)collecting phone data on people.

People have a choice about who they choose to listen too. They spoke their mind, and the people responded. They did that to themselves. They deserved every thing they got.

I had a big problem with the way the way that Bill Clinton brought shame to the White House and the American people, but I still respected him because he was the President of the United States. I was brought up to respect the President of our country.

Throughout history, Presidents have been subjected to parodies of themselves, jokes about them, insults, questioning of their decisions, etc.... And there is nothing wrong with that. But most americans still respected the Presidency of the United States, even if they did not agree with his political stances. If we as a country lose the respect of our leaders there is something definitley wrong with the American people. Whether you agree or disagree with the President, there should still be some respect shown to the President of the United States. Otherwise you are insulting everything that this country has been founded on.

Hypocrisy at it's worst!

SO what, so Bill got a blow job in the White House and lied about it. Do you really feel that that is a bigger deal than lying to get us into a war that has been going on for over three years, with no where in sight and cost the live of thousands of soldiers, thousands of Iraqi civilians.

I think i'd rather get a blow job than start a war.

I have respect for the office of the Presidency, but not the man currently in that office.

Clinton only got in trouble because he lied about getting the blow job, you'd have to be naive to think he was the first president to have an affair in that office.

Wow its things like this that make me so happy that i'm Canadian. Here I could go right up to the leader of our Country and tell him he's useless and really say anything I wanted to him and he'd probalby look at me and say "Thanks for the opinion and have a good day". Its nice living somewhere that it truely is a free country, I never really understood what the dixie chicks did that was so bad I dont have a problem with them but i'm glad they said what they did.

There is no problem with what the Dixie Chicks said and they fully have the right to say what they did. But the consumer has the right to not buy their music too. They have to understand that there are consequences for what they say. They have the right to say it, but it may(and did)hurt their career.

Hypocrisy at it's worst!

Well there is proof that President Clinton lied, there is no proof that President Bush lied. I have still have respect for President Clinton although I was dissapointed with his actions. He did a lot of good for this country while he was President.

There is no proof what so ever that President Bush lied. He acted on intellingence that was provided to him. That evidence later proved to be false, but that is not his fault. I still believe that there were weapons of mass destruction and they were leaked into Iran where they will provide more of a threat to us. Had we not had to go through the U.N. crap we may have got to those WMD's before they got to Iran, but now we will more than likely have to deal with them again.

Hypocrisy at it's worst!
