Should English be the national language of the U.S.?

I love how people seem to believe that an official language will change the problems with language in this country.

Do illegal immigrants own Chinese restaurants, work the subways, etc? No, they don't. Even these Republicans, who don't mind destroying their own party, admit that it's symbolic and not much else. The problem, as a symbolic law, is that when the majority changes, and it will and we all know it, it will just as easily be changed to something else for the same reason.

All this does is embolden a few politicians who have sinking poll numbers. Unfortunately it doesn't change or save anything, not even English.

I think that if they do not make English the official language someday English will not be the most common language. I hate having to try and accomodate foreign speaking people in America by speaking their language!!

It won't be anyway though, that's the problem.

I hate it when politicians pretend to care about immigration out of the blue because they fucked up a billion dollar + war, are about to lose elections, and now need something to stand up for.

But I put up with it.

I think if that our grandkids have to speak another language along with English it won't be the greatest crime ever. Learning is usually a good thing.

Yeah, learning is a good thing. Immigrants should learn English.

I have a big problem with this because I have to take 12 hours of foreign language in college to get a degree. That pisses me off because it is hard as hell and I will never have to use it working in W.V.
