Modern Art

Do you get it? Do you appreciate it?

I'm completely uneducated when it comes to art, but I know what I'm looking at e.g when I was in the museum in Amsterdam looking at Van Gogh originals I could see the talent and why it had lasted.

So where are all the great artists now? How come if someone get's a portrait now it's usually crap, e.g all the one's that the Queen has ever had done. However Henry 8th has a huge amount of great portraits of him.

I don't know. I get frikked off not knowing what the hell I'm talking about!!

It's a lot easier to look at art from 100 years ago and understand it than it is to look at modern art and understand it, of course.

It really just depends on your knowledge of art history and your insight onto where it's going and what intent the artist has.

Should that be the case? After all, the best portraits from 100 years ago were still excellent, the best portraits now (or the most famous/notorious) just look awful
