Seeing as English isn't our declared national language, singing the national anthem in Spanish as well as English isn't any kind of insult to the nation at all. Canada for example, from what I understand sings their national anthem in both English and French, though their declared languages are that; both English and French. If anything, I think a few people are becoming a little 'over patriotic' and causing a big issue out of something that really shouldn't be one.

I understand that you cannot translate something from English to Spanish word for word, but from the lyrics I saw it was totally different. I have also heard that they are going to make a new version with words in the anthem something like "Don't blame them, they can't help they weren't born here" which would attempt to draw sympathy to plight of the illegal immigrants. That is not acceptable in my opinion. Also I have a problem with it just being translated into another language. I believe that if they are going to move here, they should learn English. Things like this are going to make it more acceptable for immigrants to not learn English. And we are the ones that are going to be responsible to communicate with these people, because they must be able to communicate to work. Right now a lot of Colleges and Universities are making it a requirement to take 12 hours of foreign language for a Bachelor's Degree. That is just getting ridiculous if you ask me. If they want to move here and work here, they should speak our language.

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | I've had the pleasure(?) of working with many Hispanic immigrants - being in the construction trade for most of my life. I don't have a problem with them, as a people (some of their women are gorgeous), but it has always struck me as arrogant for someone to move to a city like mine and expect seven million people to learn how to speak his language so that he can communicate with us. Then again, I have elso experienced - like you've seen on many cop shows - the fact that most of them speak English just fine when it suits them. If they need something from you, it's "Pardon me, can you tell me where...", but if you need something from them, it's "No hablo". Now, of course, yo hablo. Yo estudio Espaniol para tres anos, but I would refuse to speak it. The same thing goes for Ebonics, beeyatch! "My black a$s be pledgin' allegiance, an' sh!t, dog, wassupwitdat To da YO-nited States of Whitey's America, maw-fuggah" |

If it's a language that's very prevelant in your country then fine. Your anthem is still the theme from Fame isn't it? Should be cool

But really there shouldn't be any problem with a Spanish version of the anthem. It's a tad ridicilous for people who are in uproar to make a complete mountain out of a mole hill.

Rep Power: 15 ![]() | I do not think the anthem should be sung in Spanish. For one, they are not just translating it they are changing it so it's not even the same song. Second, the immigrants are coming to our country and trying to make us adapt to them and their culture instead of adapting to our culture. What happened to the days when immigrants would want to learn English so they could fit in? Why am I expected to learn Spanish because someone decided to (in some cases illegally) come into our country and decided to not even bother trying to learn the dominant language? |
