Owning a gun: Right or Wrong?

That is one big problem with the gun debate right now. There are two extreme sides. One side wants unreasonable restrictions on guns. The other side is the NRA which wants everything unrestricted pretty much. The majority of guns owners don't want most automatic weapons to be legal. But the NRA is the the biggest organization out there so most gun owners see no other choice but to support the NRA. There needs to be some middle ground.

There is absolutely no need what so ever to have things like Uzis, AK-47's and things like that. They should be banned. But most people find themselves having to support keeping guns like that legal because the other side wants to get rid of all guns.

Pretty bad situation.

And you are missing my point entirely.

I will bet you that most of those people that do have accidents are inexperienced with guns. The people that know about guns and are experienced with them would account for a very small margin of those accidents.

Dak, just think of it this way. How many people defend themselves with a gun a year? And how many people have an accident with a gun a year?

I don't really follow you logic here Miakal.

Not very many people have to defend themselves with a gun in a year.

But not very many responsible gun owners have accident with guns either.

Most of the accidents that occur do not happen to experienced gun owners, that is my point. Most accidents happen when an irresponsible gun owner leaves their gun out where kids can get to them, or inexperienced gun owners that do not know what they are doing shoots someone or themselves. That is my point.

Do you know how many people get up in the middle of a night because they hear a noise, fire their weapon, and end up killing a family member? It's not a small number.

I'm not going to re-explain this or continue to push my point though. You can have this victory if you want it. My "v" or my special purpose.

Responsible gun owners don't do things like that. It is not fair to lump responsible gun owners with a few knuckle heads that do stupid things with guns. There are many responsible gun owners that have never had an accident.

I disagree. Again, just look at my basic question which you've failed to answer. Most people who own a gun end up hurting themselves or someone else instead of defending themselves properly. Just think of it logically.

It doesn't matter if they are a responsible gun owner or not, it just matters that it happens. It seems to me, once again, that you are too zealous to think it through. It's about as basic as you can get.
