(Kershaw County) April 9, 2006 - Deputies have arrested a man they say kidnapped and tried to rape a paralyzed 12-year-old girl.

Reports say that last week, Michael Charles, 42, broke into Sharon Wilson's home, kidnapped her daughter, then took the young girl to a wooded area and assaulted her.

"They took her to the woods back there, and all I know she ended up 'side that road, there," says Wilson.

And Wilson says she has no mercy for the accused man after what he did to her young daughter.

"Life, as far as I'm concerned, life. No parole, no nothing. Not even get out on bond, no nothing ... Just stay in there," says Wilson, talking about what should happened to Charles.

Although medical exams show Charles did not rape her, police reports state there was some form of sexual assault. Deputies found the girl in just her diaper and bra about a quarter mile from her house.

"That's when he threatened her [that] if she told anybody what he'd done, [he told her] what'd he do ... he'd kill her," says Kershaw County Sheriff Steve McCaskill.

"To do something like this to someone who is paralyzed and, you know, at the mercy of the world, it's just ... it's just one of those hard to fathom [things]. Why would someone want to do this to this young person," says McCaskill.

McCaskill says Charles was caught Friday afternoon near Lee County after blood hounds picked up his scent.

Charles had been on the run for five days, but after being caught, he is now in a Kershaw County jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Authorities charged Charles with kidnapping, attempted criminal sexual conduct and 1st degree burglary.
