Here's why I'm a machine...

In the last twenty-four hours, I've interviewed at great lengths:
  1. Joey MacDonald, founder of Aaargh! Records, productions manager of the Aaargh! Annual 2006. Also the frontman for Away, Ri'o! and The Rampants.
  2. Brooke Gallupe, singer-guitarist of Immaculate Machine, who are signed to Mint Records and just got back from touring the globe with The New Pornographers.
  3. Justin Laroue, Music Director and DJ at CFUV, a local radio station.
  4. Tolan McNeil, who owns Lucky Mouse Studio here in Victoria, and has recorded Destroyer, Neko Case, Carolyn Mark, Frog Eyes, and a shitload of other bands I've actually heard of. He's also a fairly well-known local musician.
  5. And a guy who works at the local music store.

All for one measly friggin' article.

Do you ever interview people?

In my freshmen year of college I had a brief ambition of going into journalism. I interviewed some playwrites that none of you heard of and are of no serious consequence. I also interviewed my Priest (yes) for something or other, I forget what it was.

I'm not very socialable and am always brooding about something. So I sucked at it and didn't like it. It's a serious skill.

I've been interviewed a few times. That feels awkward too but at least you have the option of rambling on.

Yeah it's tough, especially when you know so little about who you're talking to. I'm bad at being well-prepared.

I wrote an article a month ago on embryo transplant in horses (I DON'T KNOW WHY), and I took a flier and called The Jockey Club headquarters in NY or Kentucky or wherever -- The Jockey Club being the governing body for all major thoroughbred horse racing in the USA, Canada and Puetro Rice. Anyway, within seconds, they put me through to the fucking VICE PRESIDENT. Like I knew what the hell to say.

It didn't help I was asking controversial questions either. He kept addressing me by my first name, telling me things "off the record." He sounded like his suits were going to come squash me.

I used to try and interview local coaches for a school paper. It only lasted a short time and it pissed me off that I seemed to know more about what they should be doing then they did.

Yeah I worked at a newspaper last summer, so quite a bit. I almost got the opportunity to interview Christina Milian, but they probably realised I would have raped her. Right there.

Give it time
