| Ten Commandments back in Schools This comes from wchstv.com Senate passes bill dealing with Ten Commandments March 01, 2006 3:46 PM FRANKFORT, Ky. A bill allowing local governments and schools to post the Ten Commandments in displays of historic documents cleared the Kentucky Senate today. The passage leaves it one step away from final passage. The bill also would order the return of a Ten Commandments monument to the state Capitol grounds. The 6-foot-tall granite monument is now on display outside a Fraternal Order of Eagles lodge in Hopkinsville in southern Kentucky. The proposal prompted little discussion and passed the Senate on a 37-to-one vote. The dissenting vote came from Senator Ernesto Scorsone of Lexington. The bill now returns to the House, where it originated, for consideration of Senate changes. If the House concurs, the measure will go to Governor Fletcher. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So do you think this has the possibility of going to the Supreme Court? Could this be the first step to putting the Ten Commandments back in school nationwide? | |||||||||||||||

| I think someone will challenge this. I don't believe in all this religion stuff(espescially that Scientology shit), but I have no problems with the ten commandments being displayed in school or on public property. BTW, what do you think of Scientology Dak? I find it baffling that they actually consider L. Ron Hubbard(the science fiction author who found that "religion") as bigger and more importent than Jesus. | ||||||||||||||

| I don't really know enough about Scientology to form an opinion on it. But from what I have heard it sounds pretty wacky. | |||||||||||||||

| The current issue of Rolling Stone has a pretty big article on it(about 10 pages). I read about 3 pages and it sounds like really looney, I just can't understand why people buy into all that non-sense they say. | ||||||||||||||

| It would be a horrific blow to civil liberties if they allowed this, fortunately I can't ever see it happening. Jackie could probably say more on this but this has been tried several billion times in the past and, I believe, every single time it's been thrown out and the Ten Commandments have been forced to be removed. Nobody should support state-run religion, most of all religious people. | ||||||||||||||

| I don't see any problem with the 10 commandments being posted in school and government buildings. They were there for years before being removed recently. | |||||||||||||||

| It violates the separation of church and state clause. It's the same reason we don't have the Satanic precepts or L. Ron Hubbard in government, state-owned buildings. | ||||||||||||||

| Wait...they're not teaching the ten commandments correct? They're just adding it to a display cabinet? Please clarify. | |||||||||||||||

| From my understanding, these people who sue say that by displaying the ten commandments they are endorsing that particular religion(Christianity/Catholicism). | ||||||||||||||

| But there is the argument that it's not teaching religion per say and just acknowledging that they are a part of our history. I see the difficulty in it. I honestly don't know. | |||||||||||||||
