Somehow this guy got another appeal because CNN says he is waiting for a last minute ruling from the Supreme Court.

I find it messed up that a person who is found guilty can spend years with appeal after appeal, yet someone like OJ Simpson can't be retried once they are found not guilty. I believe they should make sure only someone who is guilty should be exectued but sometimes our legal system can be really slow.

It doesn't matter what he can do alive, that doesn't change the debt he owes to the people he has killed and their families.

And I think you are wrong about him repenting. I believe I heard on the radio this morning that he never showed any remorse for the crimes at all. I also remember in the last article we had, that I posted, he stated, when asked about his execution, that it was just in the hands of the legal system and that's all. He wasn't begging for his life or showing any serious effort to be saved at all. So what's the point?

You may not believe in killing people, but you certainly don't believe in justice if all your attention is on the guilty and not the innocent.

I think that it is wrong for someone to wait 25 years knowing they are going to die and when. The legal system in the United States needs a major overhaul. If a jury decides that a person deserves the death penalty for a crime they commited they should speed up the process. Their needs to be some sort of system set up to determine the waiting period for an exucution and that it be done in a reasonable amount of time.

Dak, if you were on death row you'd consider yourself lucky to have 25 years worth of time to possibly appeal. This is in place so people aren't executed who don't deserve it. There's been a lot of cases where DNA evidence that didn't exist 25 years ago comes into play and now they find out the person is innocent. Good thing you had that 25 years. We'd need an overhaul if we didn't have that time period, trust me.

His case was pretty long, but part of the reason a person can spend years before they're executed is because they can keep appealing their conviction over and over for several years. If they didn't appeal so much they would get executed withen a year of their sentencing.

BTW, the Supreme Court just said they would NOT hear his appeal, so he will be executed at 3:01AM ET/12:01AM PT.

Good point.....and I understand that. I don't really know if is possible but what I was really refering to when I said "overhaul" was that maybe they could speed up the executions of people in which they had witnesses that saw the person commit the crime, or someone that confessed to the crime. Kind of speed up the fool proof cases and get them over with......In fact recently I heard that they were trying to implement a system in Texas that would speed up the execution of murders if there were three or more witnesses to the crime. I don't know if it was actually implemented or not.

I don't really know the particulars of the case in question so it doesn't really relate to this case, but to the death penalty topic in general.
