Two mates of ours have just moved into this sweet house at Spring Hill (i.e. like 5 mins walk to town) with a huge backyard, deck and view of the city and Story Bridge. We are trying to convince them to have a party of some sort, even if it results in just a few people having some quiet drinks listening to Don McLean. A massive fireworks show goes off the Story Bridge every New Year so it would be perfect.

I do agree though - New Years tends to be a bit of a let down.

My girlfriend and I have decided to take it reasonably easy NYE, because there's this festival thingy at Riverside on New Years Day called BBQ Breaks, which is basically a low-key DJ festival by the river. Tickets were only $30 - it should be awesome.
