Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Well the guy seemed to have lived a long good life a enjoyed a fruitful career. I watch the first Karate Kid atleast a couple times each year, great movie, the 3 sequels that followed were terrible but that first one after Daniel wins the tournament and Miyagi has that look of pride on his face... I still get a little teary eyed at the end of it. Morita's Academy Award nomination for that film was well deserved. And is there anyone alive today that hasn't uttered the phrase "Wax on Wax off" atleast once in some context of their daily life. Last time I "saw" him was doing voicework on Robot Chicken, loved that he wasn't afraid to poke fun at himself or more importantly Ralph Machio. "I'm Pat-effin'-Morita, ya nutsack" RIP Mr. Morita, your portrayal of Mr. Miyagi was a memorable part of my childhood. |

Rep Power: 6 ![]() | He was nominated but didn't win for the 1985 Academy awards losing out for best supporting actor to some dude named Haing S. Ngor. When you look at the whole Karate Kid quadrilogy,(lmfao!) each sequel became progressivley worse and at the end Miyagi was pretty much a parody of the character he played in the first film. When you go back and watch the first movie though there is a lot of heavy stuff going on in there. Miyagi getting drunk and admitting to Daniel that his family was sent to an internment camp following the outbreak of the Second World War where his wife and son died. Thats the part of the movie that got him nominated for the Oscar, not the funny bits we usually associate with him. Funniest thing I read about him was in a cnn interview a while back was that he didn't actually know Karate. Strange seeing as he pretty much shaped the idea of what many people think a true karate sensai should be. |
