School: A place of learning or a place of yawning?

What do you think? All in all, is school (High School/University/Whatever) worth it?

I learn quite a bit in a couple of my classes. It's a great experience so far.

However, for the most part University seems to be a complete waste of time. The work seems just to busy a person and not actually get them to a higher level of thinking.

I'm sick of exercises and simple reactionary papers.

I'm sick of class discussions about the most obvious.

I guess the answer is it's both. You learn, you yawn, and it just dependsd on the day. I just wish it were a little more engaging.

At this rate it will be 10 years before I'm Emperor.

I though high school was a good place of learning. Except English which I hated because we always had a lot of essays, although I did like many of the books we read.

It's all about the degree. That's it. I think it is complete and total B.S. I was going to go back to college and start working towards my bachelors degree this year but just about every school now requires 12 hours of foreign language. What is America coming too?

I guess it depends on what you make of it. It can be a great place to learn, but if you dont' put in the time or whatever it'll be just a snooze fest for you. True, some classes and teaching styles are kinda boring and pointless, but for the most part school is a great place to learn.

12 credit hours?

The reason America is coming to this is because we have so many Spanish speaking people. It's predicted that they will become the majority in our lifetime.

And as you might know, if you go anywhere it's always handy to know another language.

America is pretty much the only country which doesn't push foreign langauge. We didn't have to before but now, more and more, we do.

12 hours is way too much, I don't want to take any more foreign language classes. I took 2 1/2 years of latin and 1 year of spanish and I don't want any more.

Do you know how many Spanish speaking people are in West Virginia? Not many. Most people here haven't mastered the English language yet.

Why should we have to learn to speak other languages when they are coming to our country. I wouldn't go to India and expect them to speak English.

But a lot of people in India do speak English.

Plus, most foreign people from say Mexico don't exactly work for IBM or on Wall Street. They fill jobs where English isn't needed yet they still live in our culture where they communicate with Englishers. So some basic knowledge of their language is needed.

What I get pissed off at is all these people who can only speak spanish and have no intention of learning English. If I moved to Spain or Mexico I would be expected to learn Spanish, so shouldn't people moving to America have to learn English?

I bet a lot of people in Spain can speak English, certainly more than you can speak Spanish.

Also you wouldn't go to Mexico. hahahhahahaha
