Is the internet really that safe?

Can you trust the net to be a place to meet people? The reason I ask is that i have friend who is a couple years younger than me and is like a little sister to me. Well, she's been going on all of these Myspace kinda sites and been looking to meet some of the guys she has met on there. Most of the guys she has chosen to meet, have been jerks or prepubescent teenagers constantly saying, "Show us your boobs." "Just Flash 'em once." And so on.

Can you really meet up with good people from the world wide web and become friends in real life or is it just a quicker way to attempt to hook up?

I've read many stories about couples who hooked up online. Personally I don' think it's a good way to meet people since a lot of the time they BS about themselves on the internet. Some people I know made some friends through myspace though, so i guess it depends.

In theory, the internet is a place where you will come closer to meeting a person who you actually belong with. Because, dating around your area, you have a very select mind of people and how they relate to you. By going on the internet, it opens a whole new broad and wide range of people who you can find and have much more things in common.

But in reality, its really sad.

If this girl hooks up with a guy, it's all down to her. It makes ef all difference whether or not he's from the net, she'll do it in real life or from meeting an indian guy.
