What if you had to go to Iraq?

Two scenarios, it doesn't matter what country you are from (unless Iraq. No, including Iraq):

1) Tomorrow George W. Bush and his military advisors (the WWE Smackdown! writers) decide that they've made an error with how many troops they have in Iraq. All the allies and YOUR country (even if you are French) must have a draft and you are in. Your name has been called and you've just won an all expense trip to Iraq roundtrip (if you are lucky).

What do you do?

2) All of the countries who were blessed with Live 8 concerts are being attacked by terrorists. Your country is being attacked on a regular basis. Do you go and defend your country? Why or why not?

1) I guess in this situation I don't have much of a choice in the matter. I'd have to go and hope I survive. I shall pack a huge amount of western porn down my trouser leg and hope to god I can buy my way out if I get captured!!

2) This scenario is more interesting. My father served in the Second World War and people of his generation and before would accept the reasons given for sending them to their possible deaths. They believed the politicians and they also (generally speaking) had more faith in that if they died they would be going to a better place. Now I'm a total non believer, either in religion or in our elected politicians.

Therefore, I wouldn't go unless I believed fervently in the reason for it. Another reason people would go in the past was that if they didn't and they lost the opposition would invade them in turn. I don't see Iraq and their troops ferrying their asses up here to invade us.

The bottom line is I wouldn't want to die for something I completely don't believe in, so no I'm not going in this instance.

I wonder if all the immigrants who want to be part of this country would want to fight either, I doubt it.

This aint the 40s anymore... this isnt the day of "for king and country" and hasnt been for a long time.

I have the utmost respect for those that came before me and fought for our tomorrow.. But things havent quite gone as planned.

We dont have a country to fight for anymore, we dont have a culture and we dont have a 'british' way of life anymore
