US-Mexican Border

I'm doing some impromptu research and would like to know how people feel about securing the Mexican border.

Let me begin this discussion by stating that I am unbiased and I have no objection to people legally coming to this country from anywhere in the world. The United States is a great melting pot and our racial and ethnic diversity are part of what has made this country what it is today. However, illegal aliens are a threat to our National Security, and a burden to our financial and health care systems.

One suggestion has been to use the military (i.e. National Guard) to secure the borders; Another possibility is the use of civilian patrols (i.e. the Minutemen). My personal feeling is that civilian patrols (such as the volunteer "neighborhood watch" programs set up in many communities across the country to combat crime) working in conjunction with the existing border patrol would be both efficient and cost effective.

In order to combat terrorism and avert another 9/11, I feel it's imperative that we know and have control over who is entering and leaving this country.
