Rep Power: 24 ![]() ![]() | America-The land of the sexually repressed? Ok, the title would seem like I am picking on all American's, but I am not. I have nothing against the country and actually like it over all. But there are some layers that just don't fit in with how they want to appear or project in the sense that it is the land of the free. Look at it's foundation. Extremely repressed and restricted. Sex was a bad thing and never to be spoken about. The word pregnant was not even allowed to be spoken. Very religious on all scales. Many things that were enjoyable were seen as evil or bad. A quick look at history tells you that freedom was just an illusion. The reason I bring this up is because of how it has spilled over into todays way of life. You go see a movie today that contains a topless woman who gets stabbed and it gets an A rating. You go see a movie who has a topless woman and gets her breast kissed and it gets an R rating. What does that say? What kind of message is that sending? Violence and nudity are ok but sexuality are nudity is restricted? Why is that? Who is controling this? Wouldn't you think that telling young people that sex is bad that it is only going to make them more curious? Does this not reflect in teenagers today in how they dress and the age they are sexually active? Your current government is appose to gay marriage, but there are many states who openly welcome it. We are not talking about other countries. These are states with in your own country saying that they accept it with no problems. What happened to separating church and state? Why are they being ignored? Keep in mind that there are a lot of things about America that I like and enjoy and over all I like America and enjoy going there. But why do people blindly accept these very obvious things that are wrong while waving the flag and boasting the greatest country in the world? Why aren't these people who are protesting things like the WWE going out and doing something useful for their country like trying to rid poverty or doing something to help education or the homeless? What kind of country do they want to actually live in? Doesn't repressing so many things only cause them to be more desired and seeked out and exploited? Wouldn't you think it would cause more problems? Why is sex or being sexual seen as such a wrong thing or negative thing in the eyes of a country? |

Rep Power: 15 ![]() | Just one clarification, only 1 state(Massachusetts) allows gay marriage, About 13 states have constitutional amendments banning it and most other have laws against it and it was Massachusetts' courts and not the goverment that decided gay marriage was okay. I don't know why everything is so suppressed, I wish it was like France or other countries where they can air nudity and even sex on broadcast tv. |

Rep Power: 58 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Most of the time is was mayor's of specific cities that allowed gay marriage. Then the State Supreme court had to come in and override it. Over all if we could get an up or down vote it would be banned overwhelmingly. I don't know about the movie ratings and such. Isn't Canada pretty resticted as well. I hear people talking all the time about them not showing violence against women on wrestling. I think this is a problem in a lot of countries.......just not the U.S.

Oh o.k. Sorry about that. I didn't read your reply on the other thread yet. To be honest I don't remember what the name of the other thread was to check it. I do remember typing something about TSN though......... O.k. I went back and checked the other thread now. So TSN is the only company who does this in Canada? That is pretty odd that they would just choose to censor stuff without pressure being put on them to do so.

Rep Power: 58 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | O.K. heres my thoughts then. As far as I know any movie with nudity in it in the U.S. will recieve an R rating unless it is something like partial nudity or a quick view or something. I don't think that is being too strict. Young kids don't need to see nude people. There is no reason for kids to see nude people. The U.S. was based around Christianity and the majority of the population are still christian. That could be why some of things are perceived as bad. And I know you are going to say "Why did you bring Christianity in this discussion, what does that have to do with anything" but it has everything to do with it. The majority of the people feel it is wrong I think so restrictions were put on it. That is just my thoughts though. I don't speak for every American though.

Rep Power: 24 ![]() ![]() | What is wrong with you? Seriously. There is a big difference between rated G and Rated R. Not only that, you totally missed my point. Violence is ok but nudity isn't? According to the rating, it is. Canada was founded on the same principles as America. |
