| Opening Lines I was having a rather high-brow (for me) discussion with some friends, and we were trying to decide what our favourite opening lines were from books. My vote went for "Last night, I dreamt I went to Manderlay, again" from Rebecca, by Daphne Du Maurier. It's very emotive. Does anyone else have any particular favourites, or is this subject too high brow for you, too? | |||||||||||||||

| How can you remember the first lines of books? Sure, I still remember the plots and stories of great books i've read, but can't remember any opening lines. | ||||||||||||||

| I don't read much, but nothing can top, "I can't believe I lost my fucking ear! Bang Bang!" Pure Foley gold! | |||||||||||||||
| I wish my sex life was like ECW, first you get a One Night Stand followed by 2 months of nostalgic orgasms and then 6 months of constant sucking. | ||||||||||||||||

| I have a very good memory. Plus, the Manderlay quote has a lot of history behind it, for me. Other opening lines I enjoy are: 'The Man in Black Fled Across The Desert, and The Gunslinger Followed' from Stephen King's 'The Gunslinger' and, of course: "All the Whos Down in Who-Ville Liked Christmas A Lot..." | |||||||||||||||
