There's a word for that, you pinko.

Did I say I believed all of those things? uh no. I was asked do professional athletes make too much money and the answer is still yes. Do I think sports were better when players played for just the love of the game and sports was not a job but just past time? Yes. People used to have to work a regular job and then go play ball games when they were done working. They really loved the game. Most athletes now just love money........and lots and lot and LOTS of women.....and maybe some men too.

My point being, these athletes who make this kinda money are the absolute best of the best. They are the very top, they've trained hard there entire lives to get to the point where they can ask for 10 million dollars.

This is NO different to a top doctor, who was the smartest in all his classes, studied his ass off through college and med school, worked 400 hours a week as a hospital intern.

These are both people who reached the very pinnacle of their fields, through years and years of hard work. They deserve to be paid every cent that they can convince someone to pay them.

As to my point about the inherited wealth, that was sarcasm. Why is it ok for someone to be born with millions upon millions of dollars, but someone who got up at the break of day, every day, and jogged a marathon, and pushed themselves to the very limit of phyiscal achievement, can't make a few million?

You act as though every athlete gets paid these huge sums of money. It's only a tiny fraction of them that ever make ANY money.

I see what you are saying. But I still think sports were better before big money was involved. Just what I think though. No facts to back it up, just my opinion.

On a side note I just noticed my username turned Green! :laugh4:

That's not true, the average NBA player makes about $1 million a year.
As for those who are born into money, I think they should earn that money by working for it. Paris Hilton will inherits billions even though shee doesn't deserve it.

Visit and shop for video games at my Amazon-based store, also get discounted HD DVDs while they last.

Yeah, but how many players are trying to make it to the NBA? How about the players in the semis? They aren't making anything close to 1 million dollars a year.

Exactly Miakal.

For every player that makes it to the NBA there's countless who work their arses off all their lives, might play a bit of college ball but never really make a cent from it.

I dunno, i think some athletes do make too much money but then again its supply and demand. Only a few athletes get to the top level, so while they are there they might as well make as much as they can. But why do they need 100 million or so when 40 million is enough? John Stockton took pay cuts when he was on the Jazz and didn't care about having the biggest contracts et cetera. A lot of athletes are overpaid and dont' contribute either, so I think there should be a way to get owners of bad contracts if players don't produce. So while I feel some athletes are overpaid, I think many of them deserve the money they earn. Athletes don't make money. Making money is illegal...they do earn money though. haha.

Thanks for the memories Eddie!

lol..

Now to the topic. I don't know how anyone can say that athletes make too much money. How can you even argue that? What is your argument?

They put a product out on the field that people pay to watch, if nobody payed to see it, it wouldn't exist. The owners of these franchises are running a business. Yes..sports is a business. So with the amount of money that the owners make how can anyone argue against what the players get? They are the ones who we go to watch.

It's just like anything else in America, I really don't see the difference.

Sports are in demand, if they weren't it'd be different, but then again, who am I to tell an owner how much he should spend on his players? If there is a salary cap that's one thing, it's written under the CBA.

You mentioned hockey and how they were losing money...yeah, well what happend to hockey? The owners shut it down and they revised the whole system to match what the players really deserve.
