That is not how I saw it at all. It sounds like he believes it only because it says so in the bible, not that he agrees with what is being said. It comes across as though he believes it BECAUSE the bible says so.

I wanted to know what HE thought of what I was saying which had nothing to do with anything that was in the bible. He took examples of something different in the bible and applied it to his answer.

It is like if I asked you some random question and you started quoting the bible as your anwer.
Yes, but what if it IS your answer? With him replying with scripture it states that he believes scripture on this matter. Does he have an answer that is original and totally made up from off the top of his head? No. But neither do a lot of us in this day and age. Most everything we beleive as humans comes from other humans, other outside sources. That's how we learn. We observe things others say and do and then we decide if we agree with them or not. You aren't citing your source for your argument because you think that it's original but it's not it comes from a lifetime of observation and agreeing with others and you can't pin down one simple source that was your muse for your oponion. Dak can. Is that a crime against the rules of dabating? No. And if you say yes then you are just as guilty except you can pin it all one one source.

If someone does not hold to the beliefs of Christianity then Christians have no right to impose those beliefs on them. Is it still sin? Yep. But do they care? No, cuz they don't hold to the Christian belief system. However, if you are a Christian and you are involved in homosexuality, then you're committing sin; sin that you need to get straightned out because you say that you are a beliver of Christ. With that said, let me say this, I think it was The Dude that mentioned that God is disappointed with sin but that dosen't mean that he can't love. Good point. I'll give an example: a father tells his kid to not set the family cat on fire. The kid does it anyway. The father is angry and disciplines the kid. Does that mean that the father does not love the kid anymore? No, the father still loves the kid. He displined the kid, he didn't disown him. That's how God is. We do dumb stuff and we pay for it but that dosen't mean that God dosen't love us. I'll finish with this old Christian cliche: "Love the sinner; hate the sin."
God's love isn't going to do you much good if you are in hell though.

I know that. But that's just a bastardization of the word "marriage"

That's more like what Jackie described as a "domestic partnership". Like I said, I think there should be no difference between a "domestic partnership" and a marriage, escept for the fact that a marriage had religious connotations.

The root, or the origin of the word is a religious concept. That was my point

A non-religious marriage is like saying I take communion every time I eat a saltine or drink wine.

*edit*

Nevermind. I suppose it's become such a part of modern society that it's lost the religious connotation. In that case, I suppose gay "marriage" is fine

But are you saying that gay people shouldn't be allowed to get "married" as it is defined in what you want marriage to mean?

See my edit above

But no, that wasnt my point. It's not what I want marriage to mean. It's what marriage originally meant

lol but it did answer your question. The answer was "my answer is what I think the Bible says." Yes he believes what he Bible says because the Bible said it, or at least how he understands it. All I 'm saying is you asked him for his opinion and his opinion was what he believes the Bible says about it.
