you agreed w/ that earlier, that they shouldn't teach creationism and id in science didn't you. it would not be outlawed to mention those nonscientific theories. it just is unneccesary to teach it.
teachers can tell them what creationism and id are, that's fine, but they should not teache it like it is science.

Jackie, No they can not teach anything about Creationism. There is no such class as religion classes in public schools as far as I know. The only thing even remotely close when I was in high school was the Bible club that you could meet with during your lunch period in the library. If they would be allowed to teach a class on religion or even mention the Creationism theory or God it would be fine. But there have been so many school boards that have been sued they are so afraid to do or say anything what-so-ever religous. It is sort of how UPN pulled Hassan because they were afraid he would offend someone. That is how ultra sensitive school boards are about Religion and God.

honestly dak, you went to public school and your teachers never mentioned creationism, b/c at my public high school, a kid did ask the science teacher about evolution vs. creationism and she explained that both have followers and people can believe both. she also said that creationism is not a scientific theory, unlike evolution. she was very open and unbiased.
to top that off, b/c not all teachers are great. one of the walls at my school had a mural painted of evolution, man rising and standing upright, and another wall had a mural of creationism.
we never had any problems.
yes, you can't pray in school, but you I don't see teachers being fired too often for mentioning creationism, in fact, I've seen firings for Bush bashing, for Bush praising, for pledge of allegiance bashing and for forcing students to say the pledge. and I've seen teachers fired for trying to lead prayer in school after being warned not to do it, but most of all I've seen teachers fired for having sex w/ students. I have yet to see a story about a techare fired for admitting that people believe in God or creationism.

anyways, what I'm saying Dak, is whether you believe or not, there is a place for everything. this country is full of churches and religious schools where you can go or send your children to learn about God and that's fine, but it's not science.

Well actually I don't think we learned about Evolution or Creationism in high school. Maybe they thought they were both too controversial? lol.... But if things are the way you say your school was all over the country I see no problems. But I do think they should have an optional religion class in schools. That way the people who want it can take it, and the ones who don't wouldn't have to.

I am just reading all these WC threads now and havent finished, but I thought this was simply brilliant.

As I have said before I do not argue that evolution is a fact. But there are no examples of evolution in an extreme enough example that would turn an ape into a man. This cannot be proven. Therefore it is still a theory, be it scientific or not. I do not think a scientific theory to be any better than a theory. Just because some scientists said so doesn't give it anymore credibility in my eyes.

Well, Ape to Man is on the History channel right now. I am watching it as I told Miakal I would. Some pretty interesting stuff. Saw nothing to change my mind on the subject yet though.

What about the fossils like Lucy and everything? I believe Blitz was the one who was crying about how there is no "link" between ape and man, well they pretty much put that in the trash can.

This program sucked though. The National Geographic program was much better.
