How do you view America?

This is for the foreigners, how do you view America? What are some of those stereotypes you've got playing endlessly in your heads?

What do you think it's like here compared to your motherland.

Okay, I'll take the bait!!

Now remember I've only been to Florida, NYC and Houston before so I can't comment for the whole god damn place.

In terms of culture and beliefs we're very similar to American people generally. We watch a lot of the same TV, listen to a lot of the same music, share a lot of religions, hell even using the same language means it's very easy to strike up conversations for us with American people and, after all, that's the first step to getting on with anyone.

I suppose "nationalistically" we also fought on the same side in the last two world wars and have pretty much been on the same side ever since then so even that brings up common ground.

However, and I notice it here quite a lot, although we watch a lot of the same comedies our humour does differ. I've lost count of the number of times I'll post something which is just completely misunderstood on here, which is not something I find on the mainly British football forum I go on.

Most Brits, even on here for example, are pretty self effacing in that they'll put themselves down before anyone else will and they'll generally be non confrontational and less opinionated. They also have more of feel for the politics and beliefs of other nations whereas America and Americans per se are far more insular.

American posters do like a debate though, and mostly they debate a hell of a lot better than we do. A lot of you guys should be working in law with the length of the debates!!

Now, don't take this the wrong way, but this is a stereotype that seems pretty common:

That the majority of the American public are stupid. Not even slightly dim, but not-got-a-clue dumb. I'm not saying it's true, but people think it.

well i have never been to america but i get the impression the majority of things is very commercial , but us in britian are going the same way ...
ive always viewed america as a place i would love to live because it looks so nice on tv and i like the accent , but im not sure as i get older .

lol thats true tho . i dont love my counrty as much as u guys , i wish i did but i dont really see how i can be proub of a peice of land when im not really happy with how the country is run , but im not having a go , im just jealous to be honest

I have a friend who is British and once she told me she was shocked by all the American flags EVERYWHERE. She said that if they had the Union Jack flying everywhere people would feel like it were Nazi Germany.

I think God has clearly blessed America and not Wales, to be fair.

I really don't know anything about "real" america. (Apparently Hulk Hogan lives there though). Seriously, it's hard to judge it all, because your media is the biggest piece of shit in the world. It is so fake, it's not even funny. All countries have a media that serves their own interest, but the U.S media suffocates the world with a persona, that can't be believed. Most Americans I have met (on this board and in real life) are good people, but I really can't judge the country itself.

I wish my sex life was like ECW, first you get a One Night Stand followed by 2 months of nostalgic orgasms and then 6 months of constant sucking.
