Adopting a kiddie

What does everyone think about adopting kids? I don't mean from the humanitarian point of "OH JOY YOU JUST MADE A LITTLE KIDS LIFE!"

I mean more so as the parent, and then the child's thoughts. This girl I know was adopted from Columbia (I think her parents are the Columbian drug lords) and I always wonder what it'd be like as a parent of an adopted child. I just don't think I could love them the same as a child of mine. They'd still be just some other bratty kid who I saw walking down the street, but instead now I'm providing for them.

I think it'd also be interesting to see what the child thinks. I mean, would they think "Oh I must be a failure, my parents just let me go" or what? I would ask that girl, but everytime we even get remotely close to talk about it, I can tell that she's pretty uncomfortable. Can't be forcing issues.

Talk to me. Discuss the issue at hand.

I think after a little while you could certainly love them as your own. I assume most develop a deep bond, and they more or less are basically your own kids...

I actually soent a fair bit of time thinking about this on the way to work, one day last week. I came to the conclusion that I'd have no problems adopting a child. I have a deep, non Wacko Jacko like, affection for children. Given any child to protect, I think I could love it as equally as any offshoot of my hairy loins. And let's be fair, given my sanity, could any spawn of me ever amount to much anyway? At least an adopted child would have a chance!

Well, my belief is that you can love an adopted child almost as much as you can your own offspring, but it will still be at least a little bit different.

It's not to say I couldnt love and adopted child, because if I did adopt a child I would love it with every fiber of my being...but it just wouldnt be the same if it wasnt my own offspring.

Yeah, I suppose I could still love the child. I just don't know if that "connection" of it being my own would be there.

I met my birth mother and half sisters and It didn't do a thing for me, and they really didn't seem like my kind of people. I can understand when you say the bond would be different because it is, but not from the love stand point. It did cause me to wonder "what if" at a younger age, but as I got older the "what if" went away and I knew it didn't matter. Love really doesn't have degrees when it comes to your children, adopted or not.

I would adopt a child if I was unable to have one of my own. It's a great thing to be able to give a child a home and a family that would love them unconditionally.

I think adoption is good for people who can't have them and if they adopted a baby they would learn to accept it as their own. If it is an older kid I think it would be harder though. For me though. I don't want a kid at all right now.
