Arrrggggggg!!!!! As for are they faster, thats probably wrong but because we can drive 5 mins without having to stop at traffic lights we get to drive at faster speeds.
Automatic cars are awful to drive, I test drove one before buying my new car and it was attrocious.
Oh, and parallel parking with an automatic must be fucking impossible. Especially where I live, where you sometimes need to squeeze into ridiculously tight spots

If you can't drive a stick you shouldn't be driving, in my opinion.
I don't get some of the examples people have given; dense traffic and tight parking isn't made harder in a shift. Well, it is, but no more than driving in no traffic is made harder.
