Yeah he prob won't be last another 12 hours. They said he's in really bad shape. When he died, who becomes the next pope?

The top cardinals i think elect the new one. They have a list they chose from. I know 1 is from india and another is from i think Nigeria, not sure about the others.

One is from Brazil, Germany, Italy, and Madagascar(?) I think.

Pope John Paul II just passed away about 40 minutes ago.

After a 15 day mourning period the cardinals will get together and vote for the new pope, technically every cardinal is eligible but it is unlikely that an American cardinal will get elected pope. Word is that the next pope will be just a transistion pope.

Actually any Catholic male in the world is eligible but the chance of it not being a cardinal are 0%. I am not very religious but I have learned a lot about him over the last couple of days and have gained a lot of respect for him.

Pope John Paul II was mostly great for some of the things he did for the church and in his life in Poland. That's an incredible story.

Really, the church has had some awful Popes in it's history. Pope Pius XII was not only an awful Pope but a disgusting human being. I think Pope John Paul II tried to un-do much of the mess he did.
