I think, more than anything, it just provides a really neutral atmosphere, and doesn't let the viewer/reader get too distracted. That's a good thing sometimes. It's not like if you had a girl on a balcony and a man talking to her from below.

I call it "Pulp Ficton-itis". Actually, I dont call it anything, but thats just a name I came up with two seconds ago. Its like people watched Tim Roth and that crazy bitch talking in the coffee shop, and they saw the Travolta-Samuel L coffee shop scene and thought to themselves "Aha! That's a cool neutral setting! To show off what an independant filmmaker I am, I will make a movie with a coffee shop scene with clever dialogue!" I suggested staying away from the coffee shop because I know that you're a clever and creative writer who can come up with something that's less over-played.

My old roomate showed me the trailer for this and all I could think to myself was "What a pretentious piece of crap" However, the parts I saw with Bill Murray, the Rza, and the Gza were funny "You're Bill Murray! Bill "Groundhog Day, Ghostbustin-ass" Murray" "WHO YOU GONNA CALL?"
